First Thoughts
Whoever that is in charge of merchandising for One Piece needs to get to work on creating a huge Bepo pillow. I would be willing to import one just so I can have it in my room. There will be many fans who would do the same. Screw all of those Chopper merchandise. We need more Bepo merchandise.
This episode moved pretty fast. I was very surprise to see how much was covered before the eyecatcher came. It was kind of strange since I thought we were only one-fourth though the episode when the eyecatacher appeared. It turns out that we were already at the fourteen minute mark. That is a sign of a good episode.
I still want a giant Bepo pillow.

Thoughts
All Aboard the Yellow Submarine
The episodes resumes with a review of all the previously seen Supernovas. It would seem that Law is not rushing into the New World like some of his fellow Supernovas. The good doctor has decided to let all of the powerful New World pirates and rookies kill each other before entering himself. This plan is sound, because all he has to do is wait, and all his rivals will have eliminated each other. The only thing that Law has to worry about is that remaining enemies would too powerful for his crew to handle.
Law does bring up a good point though. There is no need to rush into the New World. The One Piece will still be there. It has been at the end of the New World for twenty-two years and it will most likely be there next month or even two years from now. Law seems fairly confident that this will play out for him which makes him very interesting. Maybe this doctor has a plan up his sleeve. It is better to wait seeing that the world is in a period of change. There are bound to be many power struggles in the New World and it is best not to get involved.
Also Law is lucky, he gets to lie against a sleeping Bepo. I want to lie against a sleeping Bepo.
X. Drake on the other hand wants to cause trouble. The ex-Marine has found himself on a winter island that is under the control of Kaido of the Four Emperors. It is interesting that Drake is willing to provoke an attack from an Emperor since you would think that he out of all of the rookies would know what kind of power an Emperor has.
I found it kind of strange that X. Drake is making such a bold move on the turf of such a powerful figure in the pirate world. We already heard of the power Kaido has in the past. Apparently Kaido is strong enough to have destroyed Moria's old crew, which is amazing considering the power of Moria.
It sounds like Drake has some sort of beef with Kaido. Why else would he wish to provoke one of the most powerful pirates in the New World? Drake must be very confident in his abilities start a fight with Kaido. So far we haven't seen anything too impressive from Drake, since a Pacifista was able to easily defeat Drake back at Sabaody.
If Drake is unable to fight Kaido, then he must be confident in his ability to avoid a confrontation. One thing we’ve seen all the Supernovas do well is escape. Not sure how well that will fly in the New World but it is something to note.
At the end of the day, all of this is useless speculation if Drake is unable to defeat this cyborg looking figure.
A little anime extra here in the depiction of the lead up to Drake’s confrontation with Kaido’s underling. The manga only depicted Drake’s exchange of words with Kaido’s underling before going T-Rex on the guy. Here in the anime we see that the cyborg is some sort of guard for a city who warns pirates of Kaido.
This little city was quite impressive to see and I really hope that this is part of manga canon. Hopefully Toei won’t bite themselves in the butt later if we see Drake later on and not this domed city.
The Misadventures of Apoo
There doesn’t seem to be much of anything to say about what is going on with Apoo. The guy and his crew seem to be doing okay in The New World. They are getting chased by pink wild boars but overall not too bad. The only thing Apoo’s part of the episode is showing is that the logic that we know may not be the same as what we know. You never know if the cliff you are running may make you fall or just keep running. This is something to make note of later on in the series as we enter the New World.
What I did notice is that not all of Apoo’s crew is part of the Longarm Tribe. Some of them seem to have only one elbow joint. Maybe it was just me but I thought all of them were part of the Longarm Tribe.
Hot and Steamy
Finally we cut to Blackbeard after being teased about his actions a few episodes ago. It turns out that Bonney was the rookie that Blackbeard had captured. Bonney and her crew look as if they had a difficult fight against the Blackbeard crew. We all know how news can get distorted at times in the One Piece world. Maybe Blackbeard had found the weakened Bonney and claimed he captured her.
I find it strange that Bonney has not tried to escape though. You think that she can easily de-age herself in order to loosen the chains and run away. There must be more to the mechanics of Bonney’s powers then we think if she hasn’t done this yet. Another possibility why Bonney has not used her aging powers is that they are a Devil Fruit power and she is wearing Sea Prism handcuffs.
At least he knows that his crew is ugly
Blackbeard seemed to know a bit about Bonney judging the way he spoke to her. The older pirate acted as if she is important and Akainu reassure that. Bonney seems to be well known by people who are or have been in high places.
“When I heard that you escaped from the Government, it made my blood freeze.”
-Akainu
Bonney must be very important or dangerous if the idea of escaping makes Akainu’s blood freeze. This is the very guy that had no problem with destroying a whole civilization and use underhanded tactics in war. Moreover, it must be very hard to freeze the blood of a guy made out of magma (Bad Joke!).
Joking aside, Bonney doesn’t seem to like the World Government and her reaction to Akainu is further proof of that notion. Bonney displayed the most emotion out of all of the Supernovas during the events at Marineford. She was shown to be crying and distressed every time we saw her. She sounded upset when she spoke to Akainu. Could she be upset because of the death of Whitebeard or could this run deeper than that? Either way Bonney is back in the hands of the World Government.
The Disappearance of Gekko Moria
One of the most shocking pieces of news is the fact that Gekko Moria has escaped. It would seem as if Moria has used his Shadow Shadow fruit to escape certain death at the hands of Doflamingo and the Pacifistas.
I can see Moria escaping from that attack. It wouldn't be the first time he avoided a fight. Remember, during the Thriller Bark Arc, he made Luffy chase him all over the island. Then at the last minute Moria switched places with his shadow. I suspect that Moria did something similar to that in order to escape. The question is what condition Moria is in. Is Moria so incapacitated that he made himself into a zombie? That idea does sound cool but I hope that isn't true. The character may have his faults but he is a favorite of mine.
Doflamingo seems like he doesn't take junk from anyone. We are getting a look into the crazy pink feathered boa jacket wearing blond man's mind. Doflamingo doesn't care what the government tells him to do because they don't care about him. He has the mindset of a pirate through and through in his mind. I wonder what lead Doflamingo to become a Warlord as it seems it is pretty easy for him to quit. If Doflamingo gets bored then all he has to do is call it quits, and he will go back to whatever he was doing before. This makes sense because the only perks he enjoys are being able to do whatever he wants with the Government turning a blind eye to it.
ChopperMask Begins
There is something going on here. Chopper has willingly returned to the Birdie Kingdom and he is doing it with style. Okay...I lied about that last part.
It looks like Chopper is unknowing taking a book out of Usopp's book. I swear I seen this before. Everything Chopper said seem to have been said when Usopp was Sniper King. It is clear that Chopper was inspired by Sniper King to do this. Personally I would have liked if Chopper had called himself Chopperman. That would have been an excellent reference to the shorts that were made several arcs ago.
Chopper wants to stay on the island to study. Surely Chopper can learn a lot about medicine from these people, which is good for the doctor in Chopper. Even though the people of the island look dumb, they are smart. Even Chopper knows that and it was funny he said that out loud. haha
If Chopper wants to read all of those books, then he will be on this island for a long time. Chopper has stated that he wants to stay on this island, but for how long is the question. It may take years to study all of the books and plants on the island. Chopper is not concerned about the amount of time it will take though. This surely has some tie to what Chopper saw in the newspaper about Luffy’s actions at Marineford.
I liked that they reanimated these scenes. I am not sure if they are from Movie 9, but they look really nice. Chopper also looks really cute. The Chopper in these scenes looks nothing like the Chopper that we met around Episode 88. I am guessing they wanted Chopper to look like the plushies.
I wonder if we are going to have reanimated scenes with the other Straw Hats. I would have to guess that we will get reflection from each Straw Hat in the next episode or two. It won't matter much for Franky and Brook. It will be the older characters such as Zoro and Usopp whose back story was displayed nearly five hundred episodes ago. Then again they may just splice scenes from the current opening together. Who knows?
Chopper’s plan is to not only become more knowledgeable in medicine but to become stronger. Chopper is willing to become a monster to be stronger. I wonder if that means finding a way to control his most powerful and deadly point, Monster Point. That would surely make Chopper a force to be reckoned with. Then again, Chopper also has to deal with that pesky two Rumble Ball problem he has. Fixing one of those problems would make Chopper a much more flexible fighter which would be a good quality to have upon entering the New World.
Final Thoughts
I am legally obligated by Sora to include one image of Cheapers in any episode he appears in.
This episode was filled to the brim with information. We were getting updates about the rest of the Supernovas, Moria and Chopper. We are slowly realizing what Luffy told his crew in the last episode. He wants them stay where they are but the question is for how long. What will each crew member do is another question? Chopper clearly has a lot of reading to do but what about the others? Guess that what the next episode explains.
Preview
It looks like the next episode will focus on Franky, Nami and Sanji as we check up on them. I am looking forward to seeing what Franky has up his sleeve. The guy was funny as heck the last time an episode featured him and the preview shows interesting things.
Based on the title though, it looks like the episode focuses on Sanji and his trials on Ivankov's kingdom of transvestites. Maybe this is because I know what happens on the manga but I would have liked the episode to focus on Franky. That is my desire.
Prepare to see burning lions and men! Things are going to get strange in the next episode. Hopefully Nami will be there to help weather us though the storm.
Next Episode: Surviving the Hell! The Manly Sanji's Challenge.
Poor Sora....I know how much she hates doing episodes involving Kamabakka Kingdom. Hopefully she won't go crazy.

First of all, isn't it called "Kamabakka Queendome." to be precise?
ReplyDeleteSecond of all, did we skip an episode? (512 to be specific) Because there was a tiny yet-ever-so-crucial bit of information Buggy gave out that I was reeeeeally looking forward to discussing. Couldn't someone else (sorry, I don't know everybody yet) have done that episode, you let Sora handle this episode, then you could do the Kambakka episode so she wouldn't have too?
Third of all, Drakes my own personal favorite of the rookies. I know a huge majority goes to Law, and a ton of people think Kid is badass, but damn I just couldn't say no to a guy who can morph into a freaking T-Rex. He's also one of the rookies most curious to hear more about, because given his back story how he use to be a marine, that gives me the impression that he started off as someone who wanted to fight for justice and the greater good. Whether he found out how corrupted and unjust the world government is, or simply couldn't take the madness anyomore, something must have happened to him that made him go rogue.
Also, naughtydog, if Nathan Drake transformed into a T-Rex in Uncharted 3, that would be awesome. Okay maybe that's pushing it.
Fourth of all, you think the show may be intentionally setting up a confrontation between Brook and Apoo? They're both musicians, and Brook was captured by Apoo's tribe. Is it just a silly reference or are they foreshadowing an duel that will live in infamy: The Battle of the One Man Bands.
Fifth of all, I don't remember seeing sea prisom handcuffs on Bonney, it just seemed like she was chained up. My rationale is that even if she tried to escape or use her Aging powers, Blackbeard would just counter it by absorbing the energy with his Darkness powers, so she wouldn't get really far.
Seventh of all, something doesn't feel right about Akainu. You put it quite bluntly when you stated how this guy wouldn't bat an eye to wiping out entire cities if it meens ridding the world of pirates. Now he litterally has one of the highest ranking rookies in the world handed to him on a silver platter, and he tenses up? What's the connection? Obvious guess would be a family one, but I'll hold my judgement. For all I know, Akainu just wants to capture all the rookies alive and set an example for the new era with one huge public execution.
Shanks, why couldn't you have just killed that bastard?
Eight of all (last one I swear), it's nice to end on a lighter note. Seriously, this has got to be one of Chopper's best. I almost like that he called himself Chopper Mast instead of Chopper Man, because it was a really funny Fail moment the first time I heard it. Also, learning to control his Monster Point (Is that what we're calling it? I thought it might be Berserk point) is exactly what I had in mind when he talked about getting stronger.
You know, I'm kind of suprised that Ax-guy Sentomaru didn't report that after the incident in Sabaody Archipelago: "Hey guys, you know that cotton candy loving pet the straw hat's have? Well did you know he tranforms into a hundred foot tall Deerzilla that unbiasly destroys everything in it's path? Yeah, how about getting a photo of that and putting a few more zeros at the end of that bounty of his? Like, six more zeros."
Okay, first person to say where this reference came from wins kudos:
"I choose to spend my vacation AT THE LIBRARY!!!"
@Gus
ReplyDeleteFirst: Kamabakka King/Queendom changes depending on the media. In the anime it is called a kingdom. The manga calls it a queendom. Since this is the anime we use kingdom (at least I do).
Second: Sora is in charge of Episode 512 and is almost ready to go. Episode 513 was posted early so we can at least have an update on the site. Sora and I (Mikey) rotate on the episodes. We can discuss Episode 512 within the day.
Third: Personally I never been a big dinosaur fan. Still I understand Drake s an important/big character especially after rereading Chapter 598 in Shonen Jump. Drake seems as if he will or has made a name for himself. This episode was only the first step.
Fourth: I have never thought about the series building up a fight between Brook and Apoo but certainly is possible. I have always mused the idea due to both have sound base attacks. A battle between those two would be interesting and I wonder how that will play out.
Fifth: I guess I didn't say that the chains could be made out of SeaPrism Stone. That is true though, even if Bonney does use her Aging Powers their most likely still a high chance Blackbeard will recapture her.
Seventh (You skipped Sixth): A public execution maybe what Akainu wants. Still something was up with Akainu and Bonney meeting in this episode and I felt that. Surely Bonney has a story behind her that is freezing up Akainu.
Eighth: (I call it Monster Point. Japanese Unlimited Adventure called it Overlimit Chopper. Funi called it Berserk Chopper in Unlimited Adventure. Overall it is unnamed.)
I think control Monster/Berserk Point is Chopper's overall goal but that will take a lot of time. He has two years so maybe that will help him out a lot.
I am guessing Sentomaru didn't think it was worth mention since Chopper couldn't control it. He did notice that when they confronted each other back in Sabaody. Still this is the second time he has used it in front of a Government official.
I heard of that quote but I can't remember from where. (I am such a loser haha)
Crap I forgot one thing. Okay so here was sixth:
ReplyDeleteI was almost ready to believe Moria really was dead, given Don Flamingo's reputation of killing his subbordinates off screen in the past, but I guess I owe the Gecko a little more credit.
I'll say right now I was a huge fan of Thriller Bark. It's one of my favorite arcs of the entire show (mostly for personal taste), though I can't really say the same for Moria specifically. He just kind of annoyed me. A lot. Maybe the problem was that Luffy's Boss Fight right before this one was with Rob Lucci, and he seriously septed up the game as far as adversaries went. And then they follow up that epic battle with... a big fat exuse for a demon who sits around, laughs a lot (really annoying laugh by the way), and uses the exact same Brick Bat attack over and over and over AND OVER AGAIN! He's like the Shichibukai equivalent of Usopp: a character I really want to like because he has very unique techniques and abilities and is quite clever and resourceful when it's convenient for him, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF ENERU, SHUT THE HELL UP!!!
I still loved Thriller Bark and will be very curious to see Moria and the other members of the Mysterious Four regroup in the New World. I actually have a pretty funny idea for a filler arc that would involve them:
So one night as the Straw Hats are just crusing along inbetween adventures, the Mysterious Four raid their ship just for the sake of getting pay back. Moria takes the Straw Hat's shadows and mixes them up, just to mess with their heads, and so he can watch them fall apart in the confusion.
He gives Robin Nami's Shadow,
gives Nami Usopp's Shadow,
gives Usopp Zoro's Shadow,
gives Zoro Chopper's Shadow,
gives Chopper Sanji's Shadow,
gives Sanji Franky's Shadow,
gives Franky Robin's Shadow,
and then Luffy and Brook show up after being away on a little mini adventure in one of Franky's little machines, they see all the chaos and are like...
Luffy: Hey, what's going on? Why is everybody acting like everybody else?
Brook: Maybe they're playing charades?
Luffy: AWESOME! I wanna play. I'll be Brook.
Brook: And I'll be Luffy-san! Yoh-ho-ho-I mean- I will be King of the Pirates!
Luffy: Robin! Show me your panties!
And Moria, watching them from a distance, will be like...
Moria: What the **** is wrong with these morons? They're playing games? They think it's funny?
Hogback: I'm... sorry sir, but wasn't that suppose to be the point?
Moria: It was suppose to be funny FOR ME! Not them!
Okay, so if something similar to this happens down the line, then maybe I'll change my mind about Moria. Plus you know the voice actors would have the time of their life with a premise like this.
Sorry I'm not exactly posting a lot, just a small idea.
ReplyDeleteI think Bonney might be getting captured and not killed on the spot because the World Government wants to use her. Now we don't exactly know the extent of her power or if there is some sort of time limit. But I believe they may use her to decrease the ages of the Gorosei.
I've also heard ideas that Bonney is a child of Akainu or someone else important in the World Government.
