Manga: Chapter 744 (SPOILERS!)

SPOILERS!

Behold your lord and savior. Read the good book, One Piece each week in Weekly Shonen Jump!
Continuing from last time, Lucy has destroyed the arena and during all the confusion, he grabs the Flame-Flame Fruit and surprisingly, EATS IT! With his victory in grasp, Lucy grabs Rebecca and finishes the destruction with the familiar Fire Fist to create a hole into the underground!
We have our superhero for the arc!

While this is going on, in the underground factory, Robin is about to be attacked by Trebol but is saved by giant who was once a toy. He grabs poor, injured Usopp to show him off amongst the other ex-toys as their savior (complete with sun shining on him thanks to the hole Lucy made). Usopp has become the hero, how ironic. Usopp goes along with them and commands his new followers to destroy the factory and rescue the dwarves.

In the aftermath of the arena's destruction, Burgess and Diamante complain that their plans were ruined while we finally get to see who "Lucy" really was. If you haven't figured it out by this point, Lucy is actually Sabo. Luffy's old friend reveals himself formally to Rebecca and Bartolomeo as well as reintroducing Koala and Hack as well as revealing Luffy to be the Lucy she saw before.

He has a scar and a top hat. Automatically cool.

All three of them are Revolutionaries but why are they here? The weapons Doflamingo distributed from the harbor were causing wars across the world and they need to stop it. At the Palace, Kyros continues attacking Doflamingo's men while Luffy finally bursts in to save Law. The Surgeon of Death is reluctant because the alliance is over but Luffy being...well Luffy ignores Law and tries to free him anyway.

Suddenly Pica the Stone user emerges with Doflamingo's head in hand, Doflamingo is still alive even though his head is severed, The chapter ends with Doflamingo deciding that he has no choice but to use something called "Bird Cage" which gives Law a very shocked look.

Methinks theres is backstory in the Bird Cage

Where do I even begin? Without a doubt, Sabo's reveal was the big moment of the chapter even though it was heavily implied throughout the last few chapters that he was in fact alive and with the Revolutionaries. But we actually see him now as Chief of Staff and second-in-command. Sabo has at least he made a good name for himself after his supposed death many years ago as well as the fact that he now carries on Ace's spirit via the powers of the Flame-Flame Fruit. It will be very interesting to see his role in not only the rest of this arc but the whole story in general because I am hoping Oda won't just make him Ace 2.0.

Aside from that, Usopp's ironic turn into the hero that he made up in Greenbit makes for a funny scene (especially with the glowing background) and who knows? Maybe he'll end up getting 8000 followers after all but then again that would be kind of copying off Buggy. The scenes in the palace were pretty good too with Luffy still considering Law enough of a friend to free him and the shivers from Doflamingo still being able to be a threat even as a head.

But what is Bird Cage? What could be so horrible about this to make even Law shocked? Maybe we'll find out next time so until then, have a good week!

Never change

  1. So Sabo gets caught in an explosion as a child, and all he gets out if it is a sexy scar across his eye that makes him look more attractive than he already would be? Not only that, it's almost an exact same type of scar as that of Prince Zuko from Avatar The Last Airbender (who was also a firebender)?

    Interesting.

And is anyone else curious that if Sabo has been alive this whole time, why the heck did he never show up at the War to help rescue Ace?

  2. I never made the connection with Zuko, thats a good point XD

Also regarding Sabo's no-show in Marineford isn't something that I can theorize about but I have a feeling that we could know the answer before this arc closes out.
