  1. Zenith,

Thanks for another awesome recap! I really like what you had to say and you seemed to cover it really well. I've already learned quite a few facts that I didn't know before, so thanks for all the research you've been doing.

Yes, Buggy becomes quite the joke. I find it interesting that the very first person other than Luffy to have a devil fruit is Buggy and that his powers are almost completely opposite of Luffy's. Buggy is very strong against cutting attacks, but weak against blunt force which is completely opposite of Luffy. Their attack styles also exploit each others' weakness. Too bad that he is so weak...

As you stated, Buggy doesn't seem have good control over his devil fruit. His attacks are basic, he leaves himself wide open, and he seems to lack the creativity to make the most of his fruit. But why? He was on Gold Roger's ship, for goodness sake!

I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that he blames Shanks for all his problems. Rather than taking responsibility for his own actions he blames others, and thereby stunts his own growth. He's so focused on what others have done that he cannot learn from his own mistakes. This might be a part of why he is so weak compared to Luffy, who takes responsibility for his actions and learns from his mistakes. Buggy actually could be a very strong pirate, much like Shanks, if he stopped blaming others and actively worked at cultivating his devil fruit powers.

Another reason why I think that Buggy is so weak is because he chose to work in the weakest sea, the East Blue. He probably hasn't had very many real challenges during his pirate career there, unlike he would have had in the Grand Line. Because of this he has gotten weaker and less creative. He wasn't ready for someone like Luffy to come along since he was overconfident in his own abilities and past experience on Gold Roger's ship.

Anyway, I liked everything else you touched on too. I always thought that the bit with Shushu eating the key was hilarious. Dogs really will eat everything (one of ours ate a glove whole about two weeks ago and scared the living daylights out of us) and it just proves that Luffy can never get anything easily. His ability to connect well with animals is nicely foreshadowed here as well.
