In anime, guys tend to be the main focus but we all know that girls can be a very good reason to be interested. May it be because of their witty intelligence or their luscious bodies. A touch of female can make any brutal and manly anime into something a bit more finer.
One Piece has many women that can be more then just a pretty face. Most of them can kick some serious butt. You may have somebody who is deadly and strong like Miss Doublefinger who uses brute strength in battle yet on the other side you have the cunning and planning Nami who uses strategy in battle. That is just the charm that One Piece has when it comes to what females are able to do in the harsh world of pirates.
Women in anime (especially in shonen) tend to take a backseat when it comes to fighting. Either they are left to be the damsel in distress (See Orihime from Bleach) or a helpless hero (See Sakura from Naruto) or just do nothing as the guys do all the work (*Insert some random girl from some anime series here*). One Piece on the other hand seems to treat women as another type of warrior that can stand on their own in a fight against men or women.
Now I am not saying that One Piece upholds the ideals of feminism to the dot. If anything One Piece is guilty of treating Nami and Robin as damsels of distress with the arcs where they were the featured character. Then we all know that Oda only know how to draw two type of women. Extremely hot or extremely ugly. Just by looking at the majority of women we know that Oda likes to draw the really hot (and big busted) ladies. The thing is that the women in One Piece are given several chances to show that they are able to kick butt using the strengths they have to be their ultimate weapon. Something that both male and females in One Piece do.
Still we are not here to talk feminism and such. We are here to talk about who is the best lady in One Piece. Which lady is the coolest. Which lady is the hottest. Who is the smartest. Which lady will win a beauty pageant without even trying. One Piece has ton of women that are just plain awesome that add so much to the story and the fights.
My personal favorite lady in One Piece will have to be Nami. The girl is one tough cookie with the way she commands the crew. It is as if she is like the second captain or something. haha Also I love her fighting style. It is so unique and I have never seen anything like it before. The ability to create a thunderstorm and use it to send bolts of lightning on your opponent is pretty cool. Also how Nami uses her Climatact is very smart and fits right up her alley of knowing about weather changes and such. Nami is a perfect example of using what she knows into a strength and then changing that into a weapon.
Also she is hot but that is beside the point. haha
Close seconds will be Robin and Perona. Both have unique powers and fighting styles. At face value Robin's ability isn't that great but when you see in action and how she uses it then it is very impressive. Robin herself is a strong person and has a smart brain inside that beautiful exterior. Then Perona is just fun to watch and grew on me as the events in Thriller Bark was happening.
There are many women who kick some serious butt. We have girls on the pirates side. There are some tough ladies in the Marines and Government. There are even some impressive females that are just normal people. Then the reasons why can be very simple but either way it be a good reason why we like these ladies.
So the question we have here is....
QUESTION: Who is the Best Female in One Piece?
That is a question that is freaking hard to answer. How can I possible pick only one girl out of all those awesome One Piece Chicks? Well here I go if I had to pick a girl that I like most out of the show it would have to be Vivi ^_^.
ReplyDeleteShe was just a really nice girl, she fought so hard and gave her all to save her country and it's people. Risked her life and wouldn't give up and what can I say that ending for her saga still gets me crying every time, I don't care what people say about her Vivi will always be one of my fav if not my favorite One Piece girl.
I would have said Hancock what with her being the girl that represents all Luffy fangirls but her incredible ego of thinking she can do whatever she wants cause she's beautiful and her need to kick any cute animal in her way moved her to second place.
And third would have to be all the One Piece mom's Banchina, Belle-Mere, Olvia, Rogue, & Otohime who all rock for their own obvious reasons. I may as well say Luffy's mom cause I know I'm gonna love her ^_^.
Look at that I couldn't pick one after all *sigh* I tried.
I'd have to say Robin, Hancock, and Portgas D. Rouge. They are the only ones so far who have showed that how truly powerful they are. Portgas held a baby in for almost two years, Robin has regularly been shown pounding nearly everyone she faces, and hancock took down twenty pacifistas with breaking a sweat.

ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose my favorites, it'd be Nami, Robin, and Hancock. Nami's gone from being a serial thief to a sort of a 2nd captain with thunderous power. Robin's got a devil fruit, is able to make her own mark, and is a very important part to the group since shaking loose the chains of the WG and Baroque Works. Hancock, meanwhile, is a "beautiful" Amazon Queen, has a unique quirky personality, and is able to whip some ass without breaking a sweat.
I like the fact that Oda continues to make One Piece a class by itself. Of the 3 major female characters of the "Jump Holy Trinity" (aka Orihime Inoue, Sakura Haruno, and [of course] Nami-chan of Bleach, Naruto and One Piece respectfully), only Nami is consistantly strong and never acts like a damsel in distress. And the former Queen of the Pirates, Portgas D Rouge, managed to hold Ace in her womb for over 2 years! That's no easy task to keep one in for 5 months let alone a year...
With Oda's newest female character, Mermaid Queen Otohime, Oda continues to create powerful & respected female figures with every new arc. I can't wait to see what else Oda has in mind as we continue to explore the "New World"...

ReplyDeleteThe girls I look up to or admire include Bellemere, Nico Robin, and Portgas D. Rouge. I also like Jewelry Bonney for her snarky attitude, and Dr. Kureha because she is totally my Idol (hehe). Seriously, who Doesn't want to live until they were 139 years old? She is youthful, darn it!
My overall favorite is tied at Robin and Rouge. Robin obviously due to my love of history and One Piece, and Rouge simply because of this: do you even realize how HARD it would be for a female to hold in a child That Long? Yes, oh yes, she is certainly amazing in that regard. She must have been a great lady too, for Roger to have fallen in love with her. It makes you wonder if Luffy could ever find a girl like that...
Anyway, that is all I have to say on the subject. Not to mention tons of the ladies are simply kick-a**, particularly all the girls out there on Amazon Lily. I would Totally hang there were I in One Piece. Haha, I could learn a thing or two from them!
My favorite has always been Nami. but there are soo many amazing woman in One Piece.Running up super close would be Bellemere(the way she stould up for her daugheters was amazing) and Hancock (kick-ass and her naiveness amuses me ^.^)
ReplyDeleteRobin is pretty awesome but I don't really like Nami at all. I hate those type of women who are portrayed as so scary but run and hide when a fight breaks out, which Nami has done. I think Bleach does a good job with some of its female characters too though. Yoruchi from Bleach has to be one of the most bad ass girls in manga and the fight between Yoruchi and Soi-Fon has been a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, sorry but have you been paying attention to the manga/anime at all? Because if you think it through and I'm just saying: Most times when it comes to the serious fights and situations (e.g. Enel in Skypeia arc), Nami faces them head on. I'd say she has more balls than Usopp (before Sogeking of course). She isn't as strong as Luffy, Zoro, Robin or Sanji but she does what she can to the most of her ability. I have yet to see her or Usopp running away in major fights when shit hits the fan. E.g. Usopp faces dangers even when he is scared shitless of them, to me if that isn't bravery transformed from cowardice I don't know what is. Same as to Nami, who doesn't have any Devil's Fruit ability or physical strength but has to rely on tactical measures and intellect.

I like them both and seriously, all they've ever done in the manga and anime is for the good of the crew, what's there to hate? They are all important people in it and are shown to have good hearts. I've seen people nag on and on about how Nami is a bitch because she only cares about money and would throw her crew away for it because clearly, someone who would sacrifice and devote her life to her mother's killer in order to save an entire village is a heartless, selfish bitch who only cares about money. -.-"
DeleteAnd don't get me started on Robin, people say that she's cruel of all things. Yeah she might have been a villain at the start but what choice did she have? If anything, the fact that she would sacrifice in order to save the crew is proof enough that she's in the very least, ok as a character.
Sorry for the rant, I just had to get it out of my system after reading so many hating comments on Nami and some on Usopp and Chopper online. But I just don't get how people can hate characters so much and some(not saying you but) to the point of wishing they would die in the manga/anime. :C

Nami for me. She's assertive, can command a crew of mostly men easily, has goals in life that are not romance (and all OP characters do really) and her weapon is awesome. Yeah she has needed saving, but pretty much every character in OP has. And she usually turns it around. She kicked Doublefingers butt, saved Usopp from Enel when he was one of the ones who came to save her, fought Kalifa for Sanji, and defeated Absolom. And she helps maintain sanity in the crew.

The best girls in anime/manga have to be Gintama. They are so hilarious and badass (except Otae). I sometimes get fed up with Oda drawing big tits all the time. I know he has to appease fanboys, but can't he tone it down sometimes?

Her only beneficial contribution to the Staw-Hats is that of an outstanding navigator, all of her other character traits are pretty much negative trash. If her were a real female, she'd be the psycho, selfish, greedy, backstabbing BITCH and anyone in their "right minds" would avoid. Eye-candy? Please, neither the manga or anime are draw that well to consider her any kinda of "Fan Service" and she's not even close to being the most attractive female offering of One Piece universe. She's average at best. "But she's the brains of the crew!" No... All of the other crew members of the Staw-Hats are intelligent in their own ways even if Luffy is undeniably the slowest Nami is nowhere near being the smartest. So fellas let me ask you this... Hypothetical... You have a female friend the physically and verbally abuses you every time she eyesight of you. Berates you in front of your peers. She's has betrayed your trust whenever is suits her needs. Makes you pay for her friendship after providing her a place to live and would sell your ass out for a money. On top of all that she depends on you to get her ass out of trouble that she usually gets herself into. So tell me... What kinda of desperate loser are you to want to keep such a woman around or even associate with? Nami has very low character and in my honest opinion she sucks as a character. Now I know that One Piece is a story of fiction but to write such a bad female character in my opinion does a huge disservice to females everywhere unless the intentions of the writers were trying to portray her as a greedy, needy, two-face, backstabbing, cowardly, GREEDY (So true I had to mention it twice) abusive BITCH SLUT with no real sex appeal. Please mention that to me - because there sure are other characters that act rather psychotic and crazy, like Zoro when he said he wanted to cut his own legs when they were trapped in the candle wax thing.
Selfish? Sure, she may be selfish of her money, but did you read in Thriller Bark when she gave all her treasure to the woman-zombie (I forgot her name)? And greedy, yes she is, but you do know the reason of her need for money, because of Arlong. And um, backstabbing bitch? If you are referring to when she betrayed them, well SHE'S STILL IN THE FREAKING ARLONG PIRATE. And what do we get after that? Luffy helped her and BAM she joined.
But she is one of the smartest. The knowledge of weather, how to navigate, cartography, and she knew tactics (considering clima tact needs the right tactics and the knowledge of weather to use), she knew how to manipulate people, and if I'm right - I also recall she's the one that took care of the strawhats before chopper joined (im not really sure about this one, sorry).
AND, Ugh i can't stress this more about the abuse. Um, have you ever heard of comedic relief???? It's for the sake of comedy, and she hit them if they were really being idiotic, NOT for a stupid reason. Example, Zoro's usually asleep in dire situation, like when they were trapped by Crocodile. And we all know those idiots are well loved by all, so why the hell can't Nami's punches considered a comedy too? It aims for the freaking comic relief, dammit.
And hello? She may be one of the weakest (considering she didn't have the devil fruit, etc) but she has the smart to use her knowledge as an advantage with climatact. She may be a coward, but there are moments when she eventually faced the enemy head on (Miss Doublefinger, Enel, Kalifa, Absalom, who else?).
And you have to agree that without her the strawhats will.. idk, what will the strawhats become without her? She's one of the people that has the common sense to prevent the strawhats from acting ridiculous and getting into trouble (ex: lodge town), she's more like the second captain by the way she handles the crew, and it's obviously for the crews benefit. Who knows what would happen if she didn't handle the money and it's wasted by buying booze and meat for Luffy and Zoro?
Point is, you really have to analyze and read it carefully, because none of the traits you mentioned is really correctly applied. Two face? Backstabbing? Maybe, if you recall the arlong incident which is WAAAYY BACK THEN. OK, and for abusive, kindly read again about COMEDIC RELIEF because there are many people that confuse those as freaking abusive. Read One Piece again.

Boa hancock for me. I mean, i like robin and shakki because they're cool and are so wise. But hancock has her own appeal. She's cocky & she has all the equipments to back that up (beauty, strength, leadership). She has yet to show her full capability and i would love to see more in the future. I also like perona for her character design & name, such quirky! Oda has some serious madness in term of characters...they're all unique & bold that mostly would cling to mind even after reading the arc!

People are so dumb to realize that Nami hitting Luffy and the others is for comedic relief. Nami is the kind of woman I'll respect a lot and want to be friends with in real life.

And it's creepy and disgusting for a 29 year old to fall in love with a 17 year old kid. I hate her mostly because she thinks she can get away with anything because she's beautiful. I hope she loses her good lucks and reduce to nothing. It's super annoying to watch her drool over Luffy.. And being super clingy and is another big turn off!! I can't stand her kind of women in real life. I don't know why people ship her with Luffy, when he clearly rejected her pedophilic proposals multiple times. He doesn't see any beauty in that mean bitch.
I hope Luffy never ends up with her. I hope that one sided romance remains a comedic relief and fan service. Thank God there's no romamce in One Piece.
