Thoughts
It was pretty amazing to have a One Piece chapter in full color. This must be a first in the series to have each page covered in vibrant colors straight from the mind of Oda That doesn't mean that it was pretty though. The colors made things pretty jarring at the beginning of the chapter with the madness that was on those first two pages. Giolla's color scheme do not mesh too well and the color really made the effects of Giolla's ability on Team Nami really pop out and look bizarre. I know Oda didn't color these pages but I do hope that he had final say on the colors.
If there was a chapter that needed to be in color, this was the one simply because of the first part of the chapter. It really made Brook, Chopper, Momonosuke and Nami really popped out and look like actual art. I could have gone without the other half of the chapter being colored. It felt flat and like a normal chapter. It would be nice if every chapter was colored because that is my complaint about manga especially when there is so much on a page. The shades of black and white simply just blend together and it is easy to lose yourself. There just some chapters where color would just be pointless when there isn't much detail to color in.
If anything, color chapters would be an incentive for people to support legal releases.
Giolla has the interesting ability to people and things into pieces of art. Each person of Team Nami looks to have been stylize into different kinds of famous Surreal/Cubism pieces of art. You may know Cubism Art to be some of the art that made Picasso famous. Another piece you may actually know will be The Scream which Brook looks rather similar to right now.
This makes me wonder, is Giolla the source of the toy people? Has everybody who have befallen Giolla's ability simply only been made to believe they are toys? Team Nami do look rather toy-like in appearance. Especially Chopper who look rather robotic in form. Maybe the Tontatta are at war with the Doflamingo Family because so many of their people have been made into 'toys'. This will most likely be proven wrong but it makes more sense then people become toys.
The Sunny is also another piece of famous art called Tower of the Sun.
Giolla's ability reminds of me Kalifa's Bubble Bubble abilities as in how it alters another person's body. This means there has to be a way to reverse the effects. Would it be just like Kalifa's as in that it can be washed off? If Giolla's simply painting over them like paint on a canvas then maybe it is possible.
After getting a lot of moving plot in the last two chapters, we see that Luffy is destroying the competition. It is disappointing that we have to watch this but at least it is funny to see that Luffy has team up with the Brutal Bull. I found this hilarious as we watch Luffy and Moocy just go around and destroying people left and right. All of this while riding a bull. This must be to help limit Luffy from resorting to his signature brand of attacks to help conceal his identity. The funny part of this idea is that all the important people know that Luffy is taking part in the tournament.
Diamante, one of the top officers of Doflamingo's crew, already knows that Luffy is taking part in this tournament and it sounds as if Doflamingo knows as well. This was Doflamingo's plan the whole time and it is interesting how Luffy's entry had reached the top rank so quickly. This will be an interesting plot as Bellamy struggles on what to do concerning his assignment. He looks to be a changed man so would he actually kill the guy who had faith in him?
Oda is doing a good job in building up Rebecca who keeps getting more layers to her character with each passing chapter. So far we know that she has a relationship between The Tin Solider and Mysterious Gladiator Ricky. Oda is doing a good job in gather plots but he keeps adding more using Rebecca. It would be nice to have some of her background reveal to connect the dots.
Also, pink hair for Rebecca? That is a random.
This was a nice chapter to have colored and it would be nice if future chapters were colored. It would really help in picking things out in the background. Plot wise, it was nice to finally find out what happen to Team Nami. The events at the coliseum isn't too interesting, the things happening inside is.We are slowly seeing the Straw Hats and Law being pushed into a trap. One way or another, they will set it off and from there we can expect them to go full out to break free. This chapter made it impossible for the Straw Hats to escape by their ship so they are stuck on Dressrosa.
The trap is set. Now we are just waiting for the Straw Hats to activate it and fight back. Can we hurry to that part?
Until next time true believers.
Okay. I really liked Nami-Picasso.
I'm pretty sure that tin soldier Rebecca was speaking with is another one of Giolla's doing, meaning that he probably was, at one time, human who was probably really close to Rebecca.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure what to think about Bellamy, and it seems kind of odd that Doflamingo would entrust the Killing of Straw hat to the guy that got taken down by Straw hat in a single punch.
Yeah. I really do find it hard to believe that people are becoming toys. Them becoming works of art just makes more sense seeing what Giolla's ability is.
DeleteThat is old that Doflamingo entrusted Bellamy to kill Luffy. He either has that much confidence in Bellamy or doesn't even think that Bellamy can't do it as part of a bigger plan. For all we know. This could just be a trap to put Luffy where he wants.
