The first time in MANY months we have a cover story and this one seems to be with the intent of keeping us inform on what is happening while Luffy and the gang are under the sea. The News Coos seem to be busy spreading the word about the revival of Luffy and crew. Brook seems to be in this paper since there are photos for nine people. Next week it should be interesting on what will be next in this cover story. Would we see the start of how people are reacting to the revival of the StrawHats by looking at what Makino and the other love ones of the crew or will something big come out of this?
MOE MOE MOE MOE~ I mean....Isn't she cute? haha
Blame Arlong Park for that little outburst. haha
So after saving Shira from a certainly painful experience it seems like all is good between Luffy and her. I mean Luffy is rude/immature as always but the two seem to have hit it off nicely. The dialog that we get from Shira and Luffy is pretty cool as well. We get to see a bit of how Shira's life is as she seems to be stuck in that tower for a long while. So seeing a human like Luffy may be new to her. This little piece of dialog I like a lot though:
"If you're a pirate Luffy...then are you a bad person?"Luffy has always known that as a pirate he isn't exactly consider a good guy. That is no secret since he said it himself before. The thing is that we seen a lot of people say good things about him and have even call him a good person. I am guessing that Luffy is just going to be honest and let Shira make her own judgment like everybody else has. That has always been seen before in the past since we certainly learn that just because a person may have a position of a good guy doesn't mean they are. (EX: Akainu)
"...Hm? ...Mmm...I dunno, that's up for you to decide."
-Conversation between Shira and Luffy
Why am I calling the Mermaid Princess the name Shira instead of using her full name? I let Luffy explain.
"That's a hard name to say."Yep. It is also hard to spell.
-Luffy
So we get some sort of explanation about Decken in this chapter. The guy has a serious obsession over Shira that is way over insane. The guy is giving Shira the choice between life and marriage. Reminds me of all those tales that you hear about psycho boyfriends and such with how he talks about wanting Shira to be his. It is really bad if King Neptune has gone as far to put Shira in a tower in order to protect her from Decken's 'throw of love'.
Now to the next part about Decken where I am going to use a little help.
"How batshit insane do you have to be to eat a Devil Fruit... as a Fishman? YOU LIVE IN THE FUCKING OCEAN."Yeah. haha I really want to know how Decken's 'Target Target' curse works along with his mind. This is one strange fishman. It sounds like Shira was referring to Decken's 'Target Target' curse as a Devil Fruit. The thing is that you hit the whole 'Devil Fruit users don't do well in water' thing. Then again we have never been told that a Fishman can't eat a fruit or how eating a Devil Fruit affects a fishman. Maybe due to their strengths they can overcome the water weakness of Devil Fruits? Thus giving another reason why fishman are superior to humans. Then again maybe Decken suffers from some sort of other weakness or is unable to move as freely as normal merfolk which could be consider as as curse.

This 'Target Target curse' could be interesting since he was able to throw an axe from so far away. There are clear weaknesses to it such as that it can't get through walls. That would explain why we saw a mace and knives stuck to the walls and the door to Shira's tower in the last chapter. Then as we saw with Luffy, people can still get in the way and deflect what is thrown. Also maybe the fact that Decken has to put on a glove to touch (or at least shake hands) could be something that involves his power.
Still I think we can all agree that Decken is crazy even if he isn't a Devil Fruit user that LIVES IN THE OCEAN!
Shira may be a cry baby but in just one chapter she has really grown on me. She seems very innocent and naive but in a good way. When she bombarded Luffy with all those question felt....Well it can really be felt that Shira has been stuck within that tower for many years. I would guess that normal merfolks would at least have the chance to see what above the sea. It may be difficult due to the relationships between merfolk and humans but still possible. Shira on the other hand has the deck stacked against her in many ways due to her being a princess. She must be very valuable (also don't forget the crazy man that wants to marry her) so it makes it hard for her to enjoy life outside the castle.
Looks like Luffy has taken a liking to her too even though he admits she is a bit annoying. Some how....some way....Luffy wants to take Shira out for a walk. Not sure how he is going to do it but he is. I really want to see how Luffy will accomplish this.
I think I can understand why Luffy wants to take Shira out of the tower. Luffy has always been about having freedom. Shira being stuck in a tower goes against Luffy's ideals of freedom so I guess he wants to give the mermaid princess the chance to be free. This may not be a good idea but then again that has never stopped Luffy before.
While Luffy is hanging out with Mermaid Princess Shira (Doesn't that sound like an awesome pirate name? haha), Nami, Usopp, and Brook (and eventually Zoro) are fending off some mermen guards. The guys seem to be doing a very good job in taking care of themselves. Not sure if the mermen are in the water and I wish Oda would clear that up. So maybe Nami, Usopp and Brook have an advantage because because of that but either way they are doing a good job.
A few points I want to bring up is that it seems like Nami has a new weapon. She is using some sort of weapon that doesn't seem to be the Perfect Climatact. I say this because this staff that Nami is holding is missing the balls that are on the Perfect Climatact (The one on the top and the two in the middle). There could be the possibility that Nami is using her original Climatact or staff but I can't think of a reason of why she would be using an old model of the weapon over the newer one. My guess is that the old people up in Weatheria saw Nami's Perfect Climatact and decided to try to improve it by incorporating the Wind Knots and Weather Balls.
Usopp seems to have shown more about his new weapon, Black Kabuto. He really did used his time in Boin wisely and has developed a weapon to help take out several foes at once. It is much smaller and a bit less cool then Kabuto but it seems to be getting the job done.
Though I am not sure if it is the same slingshot that he used to fire the Green Stars a few chapters back. The prongs on that weapon were curved slightly while these are straight just like Kabuto's. Maybe it is possible that Usopp developed several weapons in his two years at Boin? Or maybe I just over thinking this too much. Either way clearly Usopp has grown a lot during his two years and has learn to take charge since it seems like he is leading this little attack. Zoro and Brook seem to be just here to provide a bit of firepower. Brook looks like he was doing backup while Zoro was providing power by countering King Neptune's attack.
Brook does look cool by the way. haha
Then we end this chapter with a union between Hodi and Decken. Looks like many of the random things are slowly coming together. Both Hodi and Decken seem a bit random but now there is a connect. Apparently they think that Neptune lacks 'fishmen or merman pride'. I am guessing that Neptune has something hidden like maybe a possible peace deal with the humans/World Government or maybe even 'Big Mum' Linlin. It would explain why they want to take down the Ryuguu Kingdom.
Now we need to figure out how Caribou fits into this equality.
This was a chapter that was filled with many goodies and I can't wait till next week. So hold on to your seats true believers and prepare for what we can hope to be another awesome chapter.
You know, I don't think a fishman eating a devil fruit would be that insane. When a devil fruit user falls into the water they loose all their strength and drown. But the curse is only responsible for making them loose their strength, the drowning happens just because they can't breathe under water. But a fishman can breathe under water, so while I think the water would make him loose his strength, it's not like he'll drown or anything. He'd just have to wait for someone to get him back out of hte water.

ReplyDeleteThat makes sense.
Also it was brought to my attention, it seems like Decken has a bubble around him on the last page. His second hand was in the bubble while his gloved hand was outside the bubble to shake Hodi's.
It was a great installment to the epic tale of One Piece.
ReplyDeleteI only have one complaint, Luffy's being drawn differently. It started in impel down... but he's been drawn smaller and younger looking for quite some time now.
The long limbed, long torso'd young man seems to be regressing.
He used to look 17. Then on occassion you'd see signs of maturity. Now... he just looks small...especially for a 19yr old.
