SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
No its not raining cats and dogs, its Viz’s One Piece!
Following up to last week’s chapter, the Straw Hats are still heading towards Fishman Island underwater, meanwhile the Coribou Pirates are hot on their trail getting ready to ambush them at top speed due to a giant, yet familiar sea monster pulling the ship forward. Usopp spots them but its too late to do anything about it and the Coribou Pirates are ready to board the Thousand Sunny. It turns out the sea monster is actually Mohmoo the giant Sea Cow who was with the Arlong Pirates waaaaay back in the East Blue. You might also remember the fact that both Sanji and Luffy beat the poor thing pretty easily back then, Mohmoo also remembers this and flees for his life just as they start to get onboard the Sunny with only Coribou managing to do so.
Poor Mohmoo, you never stood a chance
As you also might’ve guessed Coribou breaks down and begs for his life as well as asking to ride with them for a while (which is ironic since the opposite happened last chapter with the fake Straw Hats). Obviously they don’t trust him so they tie him up, Coribou thinks to himself that he can easily escape but he’s going to wait for the opportune moment. Usopp notices that they’re going in a different direction than what the Log Pose says, but Nami explains that they’re going South West because if they just went straight ahead they would get swallowed up by the sea currents or run into other possible dangers. The sea is also getting colder since they’re getting into deeper currents but they all connect to each other so they can get to higher currents easily. Nami tells the gang that they’re going to use a descending current which allows them to travel from a higher Surface Current to a lower Deep Current. Also the Red Line is like an assembly of adjoining islands which consists of Summer and Winter islands. The climatic zone they’re in is where the intensely cold Winter islands are thus the drop in temperature. So in other words, once they get to the Deep Currents, its going to be EXTREMELY cold.
Er…were you guys listening?…Hello?
The Straw Hats finally make it to the descending current (AKA a Downward Plume) which also turns out to be a GIANT waterfall….damn. Luffy spots a monster down there and our chapter ends with the Straw Hats encountering A GIANT KRAKEN???! On top of this awesomeness, Luffy says that hes gonna tame the giant octopus, which means next time we should be seeing the crew witness Luffy’s Haki for the first time.
I don’t know what I should be gawking at, the size of the Kraken or how beautifully drawn it is
What can I say about this chapter? Even though we didn’t get a fight between the Straw Hats and Coribou Pirates as expected Oda still threw some big dangers in this chapter as well as giving us some neat explanations on how the Straw Hats are going to get to Fishman Island with no problems (which kinda reminds me of when they were planning how to get to Skypiea).
One Piece will be taking a break next week, so tune back in 2 weeks when we’ll see Luffy OWN the Kraken…maybe.
The Kraken? Do I sense a Pirates of the Caribbean reference? Good chapter; I wonder how Luffy will manage to tame this beast?
