Thoughts
That is scary.
The chapter opens up with the kids being returned to Caesar's lab. These kids' story keeps getting more and more depressing the more we see of them. They have been drugged and condition to believe that Caesar and his candy are good for them. They keep getting worse with each passing chapter. It is becoming sickening to watch the kids in this state where they are dependent on a drug. Oda has been doing a great job in showing us the effects of the drugs on the children. It has been scary to watch the transformation from innocent children to rabid drug addicts.
The moment that Mocha started to question what was going on made me feel so happy. Hopefully things will pick up from here now that she is beginning to have second thoughts.
In the Control Room, we get more details about how Caesar and Vergo were able to subdue Law. The Surgeon of Death's life is literally in their hands. It is interesting to know that Monet was used in this power balance between Caesar and Law. There's more to her than meets the eye. Monet may be a simple secretary, but she looks to hold a great deal of power within Punk Hazard's order of operations. This little birdy could be tricky to pin down later on in the arc once things get serious.
I wonder what is going though Franky's head. He is being pretty quiet during the chapter.
Lastly, we have Team Zoro and Team Nami on different parts of the island. It looks like if there is any hope in ruining Caesar's show then it would be Team Zoro. That is if Smile hasn't already done that by making the scientist look like a fool on the video feed.
Looking the fool
Team Zoro are in the right position and they have the power. The question is if do they have the ability to stop the slime monster. Though who knows what kind of effect the Candy will have on Smile. The men ran away right when Smile arrived and Team Zoro looks as if they want to avoid the slime monster.
Team Nami looks as if they are too far to do any real help but that could always change. Right now they are off Caesar's radar because he is confident of their demise. Maybe they will be the surprise underdog team that will turn the tide.
Nami beginning to like this set up?
It was good that Mocha came to her senses and remembered what Nami and Usopp had said to her concerning the lab. This may actually be the "monkey wrench" that needs to be thrown into Caesar's plan. So far things have been going too smoothly for Caesar with him capturing Team Luffy, getting the upper hand on Law, and putting Smoker under his thumb. I know this is simply build up for when Luffy finally defeats Caesar but things are going too good for Caesar right now.
That is of course, if Kid does not come in and decide to rock Caesar's world. He was not mentioned in this chapter but he could be the wild card in this whole mix.
Obligatory Law Image
We are getting a lot of new players added to the game and our favorite ones are stuck behind bars or in the snow. Caesar is talking to the brokers and making himself feel better. I think I am about ready to see Luffy and crew kick some butt. Something has to happen because Caesar is getting too big for himself and needs to be brought back to reality. The question is who will do it?
Til next time true believers!
The one thing that kinda kills the tension here for me is how casual everyone in prison seems to be. It's as if getting caught was part of their plan all along. And we saw Rayleigh, Luffy's mentor, get caught back in Saobody, only to realize he was able to break out himself at any time.
ReplyDeleteYou know Mike, I'm starting to get your affinity for Kid now more than I did before. While I don't necessarily believe he's going to be some Deus-Ex-Machina who frisks the straw-hats and Law to safety, but whatever he is planning it might take a while.
In fact, the more I think about it, of all the One Piece characters yet to be voiced in Funimation's English Dub, Eustass Kid would probably be my #1 Dream Job to voice, were I to become a voice actor. Law being a close second, and X-Drake being my third.
In fact, the commentary on the DVD I won from you guys last month mentioned how Funimation has to have a new line of auditions for One Piece nearly every year now, so maybe I should take a few voice/speech classes and look into that. I do have a theater background and even now spend my spare time singing for a town choir.
Never mind me, I'm just daydreaming.
