SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Let me get something out of the way; I LOVE crossovers! One Piece is cerianly no stranger to them what with Dragon Ball Z in Cross Epoch as well as various cameos in Jump artwork with other characters. The latest is of course with Toriko, its pretty much a big promotion for Toei to advertise the Toriko anime which premieres this week in Japan. They went all out by having the One Piece 3D movie be a double feature alongside the 3D Toriko movie as well as the TV Special which airs this week to celebrate the two now sharing the Dream 9 block as Dragon Ball Kai is supposedly ending this week although personally I think its just being put on hiatus since Toei wouldn't just end it at the Cell Saga. Regardless, from this week Toriko and One Piece will be showing up together on TV in Japan every week. Another promotion is the special chapter we are looking at today. So with all of that out of the way, lets have some fun and read this epic tale!
Luffy is in fact, in heaven :D
It is a bright sunny day, Luffy is fast asleep when he is suddenly awakened as a giant piece of meat falls from the sky, soon enough more appears and it turns out to be raining meat. As we all know how much Luffy LOVES meat he drools at the sight of this and noms away every bit that he can see. In fact his personal menu (which is a part of the characters in Toriko for those who don't know) is all meat for every single meal in a full course meal. Luffy hears a shrieking noise and goes off to investigate. It turns out to be Komatsu (who is Toriko's companion and is an excellent cook) has spotted something and tells Toriko (who I think is bathing in wine or juice) to come right away. It turns out to be A DEVIL FRUIT.....that looks like a turd......ewwwwww. Komatsu is reluctant to try and eat it but Toriko is drooling like all hell and wonders what a devil fruit even tastes like. Luffy shows up and tells the two that it tastes like crap (nice literal metaphor there). Later on the 3 hit it off and talk about the devil fruits, Komatsu figures that maybe a devil fruit can taste good if prepared in the proper way. He vows to somehow make the devil fruit taste good and even says he'll throw a big feast in preparation for it.
...its so bad it almost makes you fall asleep? XD
The next day, Luffy and Toriko go off to gather food and even make a race out of it to see who can get the most food. A Dead End Dragon shows up (which is drawn by Toriko's author Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, maybe this is a reference to a monster in the recent Toriko stories, I wouldn't know as I've only read up to the end of Vol 3 so far) and Toriko takes it down with a 15 hit Nail Punch and Luffy is impressed! Another monster then shows up and it is (not kidding about the name here) a Pig inside a Fox inside a Tiger...rolls right of the tongue doesn't it? (This ones drawn by Oda by the way since the animals look Strong World-ish) Luffy takes it down with a Jet Pistol and Toriko is equally impressed! They then go off to gather more food as Komatsu is preparing the Devil Fruit and is struggling since the taste is so bad. We see a mini montage of Luffy and Toriko eating Cotten Candy and Chocolate as well as Milk Coffee rain (ME WANTS!) and it looks like Komatsu has finally gotten the taste right, just in time too as Luffy and Toriko arrive with a HUUUUUGE pile of dead animals to cook...are you sure you got enough there? XD
....EPIC FANGASM! :D
Luffy says that since its a part, invited his crew and the rest of Straw Hats show up in their post timeskip glory while Toriko invited friends of his own; the other Gourmet Hunters who are Coco, Sani and Zebra along with Rin (who is in love with Toriko) and Terry Cloth who is a battle wolf and looks up to Toriko. Now the party can get started as we see fantastic art of characters from both series eating and comersing with each other. Its fantastic art from 2 fantastic mangaka. It all comes down to the Devil Fruit, everyone's heart is racing and eventually Toriko eats it...he loudly proclaims its DELIIICIOOOUS!!! In fact Toriko is so impressed that he adds the Devil Fruit to his main course which shocks Komatsu as it was supposed to be God (not sure on this as this may be more recently in the series). Day eventually breaks and the Straw Hats prepare to leave as Sanji is impressed with Komatsu's food and Komatsu is estatic over Sanji's compliment (from one chef to another after all). Luffy shouts to Toriko that when he finds God that he wants to eat God with Toriko and Toriko wishes Luffy good luck on becoming King of the Pirates. This awesome crossover ends when the next day they discover from Old Lady Setsu that what Toriko ate was not a Devil Fruit but in fact an actual poop.....EWWWWWWWWWWWW DX, but also LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL XD.

What did I think of this crossover! FRIGGIN' AWESUM. Boh Luffy's and Toriko's love for food was a match made in heaven, its hilarious (possibly even better than the crossover with Dragon Ball Z), good story and the combined work of 2 artists looks awesum. I can't wait to see the anime version of this as well as the new Toriko anime. For those of you who are new to Toriko, if you love action Shonen series you'll LOVE Toriko as well as you food enthusiasts out there. All we need is for Funimation to pick up Toriko and I'm golden. Guess I'll end by saying hope the anime does good in Japan and keep watching and reading the 2 series as they both kick arse! Have a great day everybody!
