Manga: Chapter 653 (SPOILERS!)

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

Oh no NOT AN ADVENTURE! Read on Shonen Jump Alpha!

So this week we finally see the end of the Fishman Island arc. So how does it all end? What will we see next? Let's find out!

The chapter begins at the Mermaid Cafe where Madam Shirley telling Keimi to go with the other mermaids to see Luffy and the others. Shirley also smashed her crystal ball after living through all the horrible news it brought and that may yet prove to be true. On the shores of Fishman Island, Shirahoshi bawls and begs Luffy not to leave while Zoro and Sanji bicker and Brook muses with his guitar for a bit. The Minister of the Right argues with King Neptune about the bomb in the Tamate box.
The Minister of the Left then explains the new Log Pose to Nami. Because the magnetic fields around islands in the New World are more unpredictable than in the Grand Line, it is easier to ensure a safer course through the use of three needles instead of one. But the more unstable a needle the more dangerous the island, and Nami and Usopp are against having this knowledge because Luffy wants to go to the dangerous islands for fun!

Somehow I doubt that the big scary monster lady will forgive you so easily

Naturally Luffy argues with the others but as soon as Franky says all the preparations have been made, it’s time to leave. The Straw Hats say their farewells to Hachi and Keimi, the mermaids, the three princes and of course Jinbei. The Thousand Sunny sets sail as Shirahoshi partially climbs on board to tell Luffy that they will meet again and that she wants to stop crying and visit the surface someday. Luffy makes a pinky swear with Shirahoshi that he shall take her with his crew the next time they meet and the others also join in. The island is abuzz with excitement once again this time inspired by Luffy's actions for the better of their community.

The Thousand Sunny passes through the gate and begins floating to the top as Nami tells everyone to get ready as there won't be a safe place as soon as they resurface. Luffy  looks back on all the people who have inspired him and mentioned the New World like Shanks, Ace, Jinbei, Rayleigh and Coby. The chapter ends with everyone shouting out their hopess for the New World as the Thousand Sunny continues towards the surface and we begin to enter the New World at last.

I love these heartwarming scenes. Reminds me of when they left Alabasta

Well, what did I think of this? I think after all we've been through on Fishman Island that this chapter wrapped things up greatly. The excitement the Straw Hats have for the New World is palpable as we will finally be able to see what this brand new ocean shall contain for our heroes. Apart from this, it didn't set my world on fire but honestly anything that makes me feel good instantly wins in my book. So on that note, come back next time when we finally enter THE NEW WORLD! Until then, farewell!

Enter the New World...

  1. The chapter was a wonderful end to the fishman arc. I just love the heartfelt goodbye scenes ^_^. It's when there is no fighting going on and everybody is just being themselves with each other that you really appreciate the fact that the straw hat are back together, It's glorious. I can't wait to see what the New World has in store for us ^__^!
