Manga: Chapter 623 (SPOILERS!)

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Enjoy life with Viz's One Piece! Buy it here!

Remember how we said that there wasn't going to be a chapter this week? Well through the magic of the internet we have managed to get ahold of the latest chapter much earlier! So...enjoy! :D

This weeks installment begins with the Sun Pirates boosting the self esteem of ex-slave girl Koala that through a haircut and an Eternal Pose leading to her home town. Since shes still flustered and not used to this she begins to clean again and the Sun Pirate Doctor Aladdin (who happens to be an old Royal Guard like Jinbei) says to let her be since her traumatisation cannot be erased so easily, Arlong is being his usual jerky self and continues to badmouth the humans. Jinbei believes that they seem afraid of fish people, he asks Koala about this and she replies that its because they don't know anything about fish people (which corresponds to what Queen Otohime said about not knowing anything about humans). As time goes by, the Sun pirates have a good life with Koala by eating together and just having fun in general. This really touches me...yet it tells me something bad is about to happen.

Once a jerk always a jerk

A few weeks later they finally arrive at Full Shout Island, Koala says her goodbyes and Tiger says he'll accompany her to the village. Arlong is yet again a douche saying Koala will change and become like the other humans and one human thinking good of fishmen isn't going to make a difference. As Koala and Tiger arrive, Koala embraces her mother and they both break down into tears while other villagers stare at Tiger. Tiger begins to leave, however...Rear Admiral Strawberry shows up and his men take aim at Tiger. He was apparently tipped off by certain people of his arrival and says hes being charged with 2 crimes....Assault and Evasion. Shots are fired and the Sun Pirates are surrounded, they also get shot at and are forced to abandon ship. Tiger (despite being shot at several times) still stands strong while his crew get back at the other Marine ships. Koala innocently stands with her mom as shes confused to all the gunshots (the mom's expressions shows that she may have been one of the ones to report Tiger...or maybe shes just trying to comfort her daughter. Not too sure). The crew capture a Marine ship, rescue a fatally injured Tiger and manage to escape but it doesn't look good as hes losing a lot of blood. All they have left is human blood so as they try to perform a blood tranfusion but Tiger stops Aladdin as he...doesn't want the so called dirty human blood.

...I cannot make fun of this

This is surprising for me, I thought Tiger wanted to make peace with humans and then he blurts this out. It also turns out that on the last voyage he was on was a lie and he was actually made a slave at Marejois. He escaped but couldn't abandon the other slaves around him, he lived by his beliefs but thinks that Queen Otohime is right and that they should all live in harmony. He also explains that people like Koala who don't know about the next era can change everything and that no one at Fishman Island needs to know of the tragedy or the rage towards the humans. Tiger breaks down in tears as he cannot love a human despite his wanting to join with them. They all still acknowledge Tiger as a hero and the people of Fishman Island always will and as he smiles....Fisher Tiger dies. Our chapter ends sometime later as a sobbing Arlong is captured by Borsalino (Kizaru in the future) as he wants revenge but Borsalino apparently has plans for him......mysterious.

Well....that was certainly more emotional and serious than I thought even though we all knew it was coming. However, theres still a chapter or 2 to go before this flashback is over and we get the answers we want like why Jinbei let Arlong loose in the East Blue or what happened to Hodi or Otohime? We should find those out next time, as we read ONE PIIIIIECE! :D

  1. This chapter was so awesome yet so sad TT-TT. I love Koala she was such a sweet child ^_^. I just loved the panels showing the good times they had together. And as I've said many times before I HATE Arlong he is a total ass. As are the GODDAMN MARINES!!! WHY!?!?! Why must they kill all the awesome people off!?!?!? Poor Tiger TT-TT. I would love it if Koala would make an appearance in the present. She needs to give Jimbei and Hachi a hug.

  2. This chapter was amazing. I'll be honest, I cried for a while after I read it. We may not have known Fisher Tiger for a long time, but his death was just as emotional as all of the other flashback deaths. He's also the best tragic hero in One Piece so far.

There should be a mention that Aladdin was a former slave somewhere in the blog; it may be important later in the story. With Oda, you can never tell...

  3. usually characters who get an introduction box (like Aladdin did in this chapter for example) do get important or relevant roles down the line so I agree. There may be plans for this character
