Thoughts

This chapter showed new sides for some old characters while went into details to others. We saw that Smoker cares for his men to the point where he is willing to fight for them. It is rather similar to how Luffy fights for his crew. During his confrontation with Vergo, I was feeling a Luffy vibe from what Smoker was saying. Maybe Smoker and Luffy are not as different as we think they are.

Law though doesn't look as if he approves of Smoker being there. He originally told Smoker to not fight Vergo. Amazing how Law's life is now Smoker's hands. Looking back at it, it looked as if that was foreshadowing this confrontation.

Then you have Caesar rallying up this troops and lying to them. If was obvious that he was lying but you couldn't rule out that maybe he was telling the truth that it was actually Vegapunk. This could come back to bite Caesar in the butt if the troops ever find out the truth about the incident.

A lot can be pulled out from that flashback. One of those things is that Caesar has no problem experimenting on kids. That explains why he has kids in the lab. It could go to even worse degrees seeing that Vegapunk has been covering for any actions Caesars may have done. Coming from the same conversation, it would look as if Vegapunk has found success in his growth experiments based on the Pacifistas. Vegapunk even went beyond by possibly figuring out plastic surgery.

If you compare the two scientist, Vegapunk's inventions could be consider futuristic while Caesar's are rather barbaric. Caesar likes to develop weapons that are unable to pick and choose it's targets. Vegapunk is basically working on what all world leaders want: A way to fight enemies without killing innocents. He has succeed to some degree as we have seen so far. Caesar simply refuses to see pass that and adopt with the World Government's way of thinking.

Meanwhile, Luffy is stuck inside a snake once again between two buildings lost in a forest in a trash pit. I guess some things never change. Maybe this dragon will be his key out of his current location. At least he is safe from the poison for the time being.

Until next time true believers.

  1. Thank you THANK YOU Mike for bringing up how often the "Luffy gets stuck" plot device is overused throughout the story. And for anyone whose wasn't keeping track
    [takes a deep breath...]
    1. Locked in Buggy's Cage
    2. Falling asleep under the stern of Kuro's ship.
    3. Legs caught in a slab of concrete that Arlong dunks in the water.
    4. Traped underneath the skull of Dorry's decayed giant fish.
    5. Eaten by a giant sky snake.
    6. Thrown between two buildings (that he could have broken out of at ANY TIME, but for some reason decided to wait for Nami to come scream at him and with a tsunami just seconds away from hitting shore.)
    7. Captured by a tribe of man eating Amazonians (oh come on! What else were they going to do to him?)

And about a dozen other small ones that are escaping me right now. You should let Zenith know that while he's doing is HOOP segment that he should make a note to keep track of how often the "Luffy get's stuck" plot is used, and keep a little scoreboard that can pop in and out of the corner of the screen that counts litearally how much episodes he spends "stuck" in a certain predicament.

All said though, this was a good chapter. I really like the development they are giving Ceaser and his contrast to Vegapunck. Unlike a certain aversary from the previous arc ~coughHordycough~ he has an actual goal that is tangible with motives that is clear for the audience.

P.S. That dragon is cute. Yes I am a dude, and I am comfortable enough in my masculinity to be able to admit when something is cute without everyone imediately assuming I'm some okama.
