Manga: Chapter 685 (SPOILERS!)

SPOILERS!
Halloween may be over but you can still treat yourself to One Piece each week on SJAlpha!

Continuing from the last chapter, Luffy had finally come across Kinemon's son Momonosuke who has become a dragon. It takes Luffy a second to actually realize that a dragon is talking to him. He should be used to weird stuff like this but this is Luffy after all. Although, Momonosuke doesn't know how he became a dragon or the true nature of the island, he tells Luffy how he actually arrived. He smuggled onto a boat due to "unavoidable circumstances" (a fight with his dad maybe?) and even talked about how kind the children were to him despite that he kept to himself to uphold his pride as a samurai. (By the way, Momonosuke is silhouetted in the flashback, kinda weird but okay). No matter what kind of food was offered to him (including the drug candy) he declined it and eventually escaped Caesar Clown's guards.

He couldn't handle the hunger anymore and came across the Secret Room where he found a Devil Fruit inside of a container. He chows down on it when a girl discovered him and talked about how she wanted to go home but loved the Biscuit Room too much. The guards find the two children and Momonosuke's Devil Fruit powers activate and he becomes the dragon. He escapes and the guards discover the missing artificial Devil Fruits which was a failed experiment. Whether that means Momonosuke can't turn back into a human or not, we'll just have to see.

I could go for some dragon eels right now

Luffy looks around the garbage room that they are in and can't see a way out. Momonosuke wants to leave so he can inform the children of Caesar's true intentions. He recounts that Caesar explained to his guards that although the gigantism of the kids was successful, there are limitations the candy drug puts on their bodies and that they'll die in 5 years. Again, he's an insane creep and I hope he gets whats coming to him.

Momonosuke explains that he got stuck here while searching for the kids to warn them and Luffy looks really angry. Luffy says that they'll climb the walls to get out and that the kids will be fine because his crew will help them out. Momonosuke starts to lose consciousness due to hunger but he gets startled by seeing a hallucination of Joker AKA Doflamingo...interesting. He flips out and starts flying out of the garbage room with Luffy grabbing on.

There you go, one post-Halloween scare

Usopp, Brook and Kinemon are on the lookout for Sea Prism Stone handcuffs (at the request of Robin) and Momonosuke. While this is going on, Smoker continues his fight with Vergo and Tashigi, Sanji and the rest of the G5 marines continue their escape from the deadly gas. In the Biscuit Room Nami and Chopper encourage Mocha to keep running so the children don't take the candy from her. Robin tries using her powers to slow the kids down again but Monet stabs her through the shoulder. The chapter ends with Zoro staying behind to fight Monet while the others slow the kids down.

Oh no you di'nt!

There was quite a lot to take in with this chapter. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing the fights and chasing going on from all of the groups involved but it felt a bit too much for me. Especially when a couple of them were only a few panels long. Despite this though, it was nice to get some insight on Momonosuke but theres still more we need to know like why he sneaked aboard the boat leading to Punk Hazard in the first place or whether this failed Devil Fruit leaves him a dragon for life. There are still pieces of the puzzle that are needed but things are very slowly becoming full circle regardless.

This was exciting though regardless of my complaint. They say too much of a good thing is bad, but I'm willing to make exceptions. I'll be looking forward to the next installment and I'm sure you all are too. So thank you all for reading and good night!

Fooled you! Two post-Halloween scares!
