Roger's List: Top 5 Scariest Characters of One Piece

Readers of Roger's List, beware. You're in for a scare.

Welcome back everyone. I'm Roger, and it's Halloween time. The favorite holiday of goths, vampire wanabees, cosplayers, and Big Mam. ...Or wait, is it everyone's favorite holiday? Anyway, what better way to kick off the festivities than with a very Halloween themed episode of Roger's List. It's safe to say that One Piece has introduced many strange and bizarre characters over the years, but how many of them can we say are genuinely frightening? Even in the Thriller Bark and Impel Down Arcs, most of the characters were more "ooga booga booga!" in a funny way than trying to actually scare its audience. With that said, we have run into a couple hair raisers from time to time, so let's count them down. Brace yourselves for Roger's Top 5 Scariest Characters of One Piece.

5. Monster Chopper
How is THIS THING only worth 50 Berries?

In the Ennies Lobby Arc, we discovered that the most cute and adorable member of the Straw Hat crew also had the potential to become the most terrifying. Upon taking an overdose of Rumble Balls, Tony Tony Chopper transformed into his eighth and most dangerous form; Monster Chopper [and in some translations, also know as Berserk Point.] Much like Marvel Comic's Incredible Hulk, Monster Chopper is a behemoth of uncontrollable rage and destruction. Any and every living being it looks upon, be it friend or foe, is registered as a threat, to which it will proceed to smash any threat in it's path, all the while draining its own life force.

It is at this point we finally understand what Chopper truly meant when he called himself a monster all those years. For someone with so much compassion, who takes the responsibility for the well being of his friends so seriously, to have inside him a power that wipes him of all his humanity, that is what truly makes this monster so scary. In addition to that, Monster Chopper DOES NOT STOP! If not halted by an outside source, it will literally rampage till the second it can not go any longer and die of exhaustion.

That is until the Timeskip, in which anything remotely scary or threatening about Monster Chopper was thrown out the window.

Darn it Chopper! You just killed it.

4. Tie

If you ask me, the most scary elements of Thriller Bark and Impel Down weren't any individual character, but the locations themselves. With Thriller Bark making huge nods at the Disney Classic, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Impel Down  (intentionally or unintentionally) referencing Dante's Inferno in its decent into multiple layers of what might as well be called Hell, both locations had an atmosphere about them that were unnerving to say the least.

But for the sake of argument, the bosses of both these hearts of darkness, Gecko Moria and Warden Magellan, can invoke quite scary and menacing presences in their own ways. Both of their original forms are stooped neck deep in classical Draculan designs. Some people could even question whether these two characters (especially Moria) are even human to begin with. Beyond that, both of them have Monster forms of their own that bring their respective Devil Fruit powers to their potential, and allowing them to take on almost Devil-like appearances.

If Magellan would stop having Diarrhea, and Moria would stop being a whiny bitch, maybe they would be higher on the list.

3. Monet

The lovely secretary of Caesar Clown, Monet is a most benevolent manifestation of the phrase, if looks could kill. Our first encounter with Monet came from none other than Usopp, who gazed upon her on the fire side of Punk Hazard, and was subsequently petrified by a single gaze. That's right, the most scary element of Monet's design is not her uncanny harpy features, but her unnerving yellow eyes. Perhaps this is why she is seen wearing those funky Dr. Insano glasses when she's at her office not trying to scare anyone.

Probably one of her most scary scenes is when she's cradling Luffy with her snow snow powers and slowly lulls him into falling asleep forever. It's quite disturbing how she almost killed him in what appears to be such a peaceful manner.

I guess it's also worth mentioning that when all those tactics fail, and you still think she's too hot to be scary, she also has this demon snow harpy form (seriously, what's up with everyone in this list having monster forms) that would give any of her admirers eternal nightmares.

2. Big Mam

Big Mam may be one of the only members on this list that doesn't have a monster form (or does she?) Not that she needs one, she does a fine job drooling horror and revulsion without it. Not much yet is known about the lone woman of the four Pirate Emperors (apart from the fact that she has no qualms against destroying an entire kingdom just because they didn't give her any candy,...and that there's a very good chance she might be the mother of Lola the Proposer), but I suppose that's part of what makes her so scary (at this point at least). We don't know how strong she is, how strong her subordinates are, how many subordinates she has, why this candy is so important to her, what devil fruit power she possesses (if she even has one) and how exactly she is planning to get her revenge on Straw Hat Luffy. All we can say is that's a face only a...wait if she's the mother...um...oh forget it.

And the Number One most absolute frightening character in all of One Piece is...
Just kidding.
Sorry it's just too easy to make fun of Nami for me. For real this time.

Go ahead. Tell me I'm kidding. I dare you.

In all seriousness The Lily Carnation from One Piece Movie 6, Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, cannon or not, is second to none THE MOST disturbing, hideous, and horrifying thing that has ever appeared attached to the One Piece brand. This symbiotic flower that is forever grafted to the Barron shoulder, doing his bidding of sharing the pain of loss and loneliness to pirates everywhere. It consumes all of Luffy's friends, and grafts them all into this final monstrous plant that is so hard to describe, saying that it looks like something out of The Human Centipede doesn't even do it justice.

Creepy! As! Hell!

Not only that, it's comes completely out of left field. The Lilly Carnation just starts off as some gimmicky little flower on Omatsuri's shoulder. The Movie itself for the most part was not all that spectacular either. It was almost like the Devy Back Fight arc, with the Straw Hats goofing off on some island playing games. We slowly start to notice a few things off about a few other pirates on the island, the Straw Hats start disappearing one after another and BOOM! Straw Hat Centipede!

And that's about as much horror induced One Piece that I can take. Happy Halloween everyone, and until next time I'm Roger and__

Um, Monet. What a pleasant suprise. Can I...help...you.
So, first you don't put me in your Top 5 Most Beautiful Women List,
You have to understand, there were a lot of candidates sift through for that one,
I don't even appear in your honorable mentions,
Again, a LOT of candidates,
And now you say I'm the third most scary character in the show?
It's a good thing Monet! Your a really well designed character with the capability of being both alluring and shocking. It means your well rounded. Monet? Oh no please don't. Monet! No! NO!

"EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

  1. Given the fact that big mom's drool was disintegrating anything it touches, you have a slight idea as to what devil power she has (your spit wont melt rocks because you're strong, pretty sure anyway), and I have to disagree with calling movie 6 bland! Davy Back had nothing to do with betrayal of trust, which is what the whole point of movie 6 was. The baron breaks their spirit before he breaks their bodies in the movie, a ridiculous feat considering the victim being the strawhats
