Thoughts

The start of this chapter takes us off of Punk Hazard, to the island where the parents of the experimented children live. They are pleading to Yarisugi to search for their children one more time. It looks like the Commodore is a fine example of how vile some members of G5 are. These parents are pleading to him for help and he simply turns them away and continues to perpetuate the lie.

It also looks as if Vergo can stick more then just burger patties to his face. Other things that can be place on his face includes french fries. Makes you wish that Vergo was real so you can stick other foods on his face to see if they will stick. It makes you wonder if this is some sort of Devil Fruit ability where things are able to stick to him. It does not sound useful but Vergo was able to make it work if it got him the position of Vice Admiral. Then in the previous chapter we saw the possible hints of Armament Haki. If this does come true then it could be a deadly combination.

In case you didn't know what an Axolotl look like.

The reveals continue on as we discover that Smile was fed a Devil Fruit. It has been a while since we last saw an item embedded with a Devil Fruit. I wonder if it is easier to feed Zoan type Devil Fruits to items then the other kinds. So far all the items that have been fed Devil Fruits have been of the Zoan type.

The Devil Fruit explains why Caesar's pet was very sentient when we first encountered it. Now that it's children have been destroyed, it is being much more aggressive towards Team Zoro. That is good for the G5 men who are stuck fighting the small half that Smile was throwing a few chapters ago. The only problem is that they are leading the lizard smile beast to the lab where it wanted to be. This could lead to a bigger problem.

This takes me back.

Just by looking at this panel I immediately thought of Luffy and crew being captured at Rainbase. The similarity is almost uncanny. I laughed so hard when Robin brought that up in the same panel and the irony that now she is in the cell with them.

It looks like Caesar has some big plans even though not everybody knows them. Franky is the key to escaping but it looks like Caesar thought ahead and had him knocked out. The mad scientist must want to strip Franky of the laser technology so he could be out for a while.

Still, the biggest reveal was the identity of Joker being Doflamingo. That name is very fitting considering the character. He clearly has his hands into deep things by the looks of it. He has men within the World Government, Marines, and Pirates. This explain why Law's jolly roger looks similar to Doflamingo.

The best part about all of this is that Doflamingo is most likely doing this for profit. He does not wish to take over the world or do something world changing. He simply wants to make a buck and is willing to play both sides to get what he wants. Doflamingo sounds like the guy who is willing to lead both sides to war and then supply them with goods all in the name of profit. He does not care who wins or loses as long as he comes out on top in the end.

I am liking where this arc is going. We are seeing how the Warlords are becoming important to the story. Then we have Caesar and his sinister slime causing havoc outside. Now we see what Vergo and his men will do on the inside.

Until next time true believers!

  1. I actually don't think Doflamingo is doing this for profit. Profit is a motivator but think about how he just left the slave trade to rot. He doesn't just care about profit. He cares more about chaos. So, I think he just wants to see the world burn as long as it is interesting to him.

This entire arc seems like a callback to both Enies Lobby and Alabasta. You have a major organization of villains and you have major players, including Shichibukai, Supernova, and a Yonkou. This is all shaping up to be a major world building arc and the new world is looking cooler than ever.

I love CC as the villain for this arc (or rather this section of the major arc) and Vergo is looking very mysterious. I wonder what his power will be. The new world is a big place and I can't wait to explore it some more.

This arc is wayy better than fishmen island, although i do like it better than other people. Still, here's to the awesome arc that is to come!

    1. That is a good observation of Doflamingo. It would be an interesting reference to the Joker in Batman (More specifically the Dark Knight trilogy one).

This arc does feel like one that has a lot of major players into it. Obviously it is going to grow to be something that won't be resolved in this arc. I am just wondering who will be the big boss we have to worry about at the end. I just can't see Doflamingo being that person.

Agreed. This arc is just giving everything that we wanted in the New World. The Fishman Island arc was just a bit awkward of a playground for something after the time skip.

  2. Eh, I don't know if Doflamingo really fits the Chaotic Evil Route. He seems far to laid back, and simply destroying everything doesn't really gain him anything. I have to agree with Mike that it is more about keeping himself on top, and that he's simply playing both sides to make sure that whoever wins, he gains. The reason he left the slave trade so easily was because the whole facility kind of went to Hell when Luffy and the Straw hats trashed the place. Knowing there was no more profit to be made, he cut his losses and left to find a whole new line of business, of which we are finding out about now.

In other words, I have my own personal Hit list: Four People in the New World I am eagerly awaiting to see their asses handed to them. Donxiquote Doflamingo is number 3 on that list.

Another interesting to note is that of all the Pre-Timeskip Shichibukai, Doflamingo is the only member that Luffy has yet to confront Face to Face, and it makes us the fan all a bit anxious, because we still don't know how exactly Doflamingo's powers work. Yeah we know he's a puppet master who can control people, but I'd like details. Like how many people he can control (so far he's only been seen to control up to two at one time, so one for each hand?) and how was he able to completely slice a giant's leg?

So let's see, besides Doflamingo, who are all the current Shichibukai?
    Hawkeye
    Hancock
    Kuma (now completely machine)
and Law is the only new member they've shown so far.

That leaves two other spaces. I wouldn't be surprised if Kid was one of them (though he might also be the kind to turn it down if he's confident enough in himself). I also here there are speculations that the letter Buggy received before the time skip was a summons to be a Shichibukai, which he may have received simply by the ridiculously vast number of escaped convicts now swearing allegiance to his crew.

Though that would suck for a certain Petty Officer of the Marines who has vowed by his life to capture a certain subordinate on Buggy's crew who, if her captain is elected Shichibukai, is now protected under the law.

    1. Yeah. I strongly think that Doflamingo is doing this all for profit. Everytime we see him, he is talking about 'Business'. We got a look into that back at Saboady. Also, we know that human trafficing still exist so maybe Doflamingo restarted it but at least he was smart to cut it off when Luffy and friends busted up his house.

I would love details on Doflamingo's powers. I kind of would like it to be haki based because it would make him so much different compare to the other Warlords. That would explains why he is able to hold himself so strongly in the New World.

I do not think Kid would be a Warlord. From the times that we have seen before, he looks to dislike the World Government so it would make no sense for him to accept a Warlord membership.

I didn't even think about Coby! That would suck for the kid of Buggy was accepted into the Warlords. Good catch on that.
