Manga; Chapter 699 (SPOILERS!)

SPOILERS!

Seek the Holy Grail of Manga. Read One Piece each week in Weekly Shonen Jump!

Continuing from last time, Kuzan (AKA Aokiji) suddenly appears on Punk Hazard to lend an icy hand when Smoker was about to be killed by Doflamingo. His icy powers stops Doflamingo but he breaks free before the ice reached his heart.

Is there gonna be a fight?....No. Doflamingo decides to go but not before asking what Kuzan is standing for. Kuzan ignores him and instead calls out for medical attention for Smoker allowing Doflamingo to leave by flying on Buffalo with Baby 5.

Kuzan tells Smoker that he can still make a difference even when he isn't a Marine. Smoker asks how he found out about Punk Hazard because he shouldn't have known unless he has been dealing with underworld types. Kuzan the shoos off the G5 soldiers and lets Smoker know that he has not done done anything of the sort.
Still as chilled out as ever.

Kuzan also warns Smoker that Doflamingo is dangerous due to his prowess as a pirate and, at the moment, he poses the biggest threat to the Marines thus the Admirals should prepare. In other words, major stuff is going to go down.

That night while out on sea, the Straw Hats relax except for Chopper and Usopp who are anxious that Doflamingo will be around to attack them. While this is going on, Kinemon tries to have a duel with Zoro because he thinks that Zoro robbed Ryuuma's grave for his sword (Shuusui). Before they have pizza, Kinemon asks where Momonosuke is and Nami tells him that hes having a bath with Robin...Lucky bugger.

Of course, cue the fanservice of Robin in a towel while Momonosuke innocently cuddles into her, which of course angers Sanji, Brook and Kinemon leading to the three getting punched by Nami. Momonosuke thanks her and even calls Nami a princess. That earns him a hug and it turns out he is not as innocent after all as he smirks to the three jealous men while nestling in her cleavage...I might just hit him too.

This is just about the creepiest face Oda has ever drawn

They all have a peaceful night and the next day arrives, along with the newspaper. The headline clearly states that Doflamingo has relinquished his title as a Warlord of the Sea and at the same time renounced his royal status in Dressrosa, thus fulfilling his end of the bargain much to everyone's surprise.

The article also points out the alliance between Luffy and Law along with the reactions from all across the world; Captain Kid, Basil Hawkins and Scratchmen Apoo have also made an alliance together...Interesting.

Luffy wonders if the three have made a plan similar to their own, but Law says to forget them and focus their attention on Doflamingo. Law reminds everyone of what Doflamingo has given up in order to get Caesar Clown back and begins to tell them what the next phase will be.

In Dressrosa, the place is in uproar over the news while Doflamingo sitting in his office just reading and listening to music. The chapter ends with the Transponder Snail Law gave him starting to ring and Doflamingo picks up the receiver.

"Hello, is there an Amanda Huginkiss?"

I can safely say that this was possibly the best chapter we've had in a while. We got a decent amount of suspense, some R&R with the Straw Hats and more importantly; big plot developments as well as seeing the reactions of people from all over the world. I love it.

It'll be very interesting to put the pieces of where this arc is going to go into , especially because I kept asking myself throughout reading "Just what is going through this characters mind?". Theres a lot going on and of course, there'll be even more going on once this new arc has properly started (i.e. when the Straw Hats land).

Whatever happens once Doflamingo and Law begin their next conversation, you bet that I'll be looking forward to whatever will occur. Anyway, thats all for today and I'll see you all next time.

Can you spot Bepo?

  1. Okay, so the one thing I reeeeeally do not get in this chapter is when Smoker tells Aokiji that he's not suppose to know about the island. THAT MAKES NO SENCE! Punk Hazard was the island that Aokiji and Akainu staged their big confrontation to decide who would become the new Fleet Admiral, and thus why the island is split between a fire and ice portions of the island. Why the hell would he not know about the island. Anyone care to explain this to me?

    1. I think Smoker was referring that Kuzan was not suppose to know about the working lab at Punk Hazard. The lab must have been evacuated for the duel and made to look as if it was empty.

Now, during the timeskip, Kuzan may have found out or stumble upon the knowledge of the lab and thus found out. This could be one of the things that Kuzan was referring to in his statement concerning being able to do things that he couldn't do as a Marine man. This could also be said when it comes to having knowledge that can only be gotten if he had ties with the Black Market.

Kuzan has clearly been busy during the last two years. He could have picked up on things that he couldn't have as an Admiral. Also, we do have that room filled with prisoners that happen to be frozen that was never explained. Who to say that Kuzan didn't put them there and Caesar was too stupid to notice or gave up on them upon discovering that he can't thaw the prisoners out to use them.

    2. Was the fact that the fight was on Punk Hazard public information, or classified? I would have imagined that the fight itself was classified information if Jinbei wasn't the one who first told us about it. Perhaps Smoker didn't know that Punk Hazard was the island in which the duel took place on. Considering that there was a secret abandoned weapons lab there, it seems reasonable that the World Government wouldn't want to draw any attention to it.

    3. But in a previous scene, wasn't Smoker the one who explained to his men about the island and the duel and thus why the island is no longer inhabitable?

Mike your explanation makes a little sense, that he was referring that Aokiji didn't know about the working lab there, but I find a kind of remark like that from Smoker kind of moot, because technically speaking, The Marines didn't know about it either.

  2. Punk Hazard: Starts with Nami fan service. Ends with Robin fan service.

  3. smoker told aokiji that he's not supposed to know about what is going on PH, not about PH itself, since he quit the marines.

    1. ...But that makes no sense either, because the Marines didn't know what Ceaser and Don were up to. When Smoker and G5 arrived at the island they thought the island was supposed to be abandoned after Aokiji and Akainu's duel, and thus why they were so surprised when Law showed up.
