One Piece Theory 102 (With Roger): The Seventh Warlord Revelation

Yeah, way to be subtle about keeping a secret, Oda.

Welcome back. Today was originally meant to be just another edition of Roger's List. Specifically a Top 5 list of candidates that I believed could be the 7th member of Seven Warlords. However, after further contemplation and consulting with my fellow colleagues, it became more and more clear that there was one choice that stands out and makes so much statistical sense, that any of the other candidates on my list would seem mute. Therefore, today's episode has been modified into my second edition of One Piece Theory.

The Seventh Warlord Revelation

Before I get to revealing this person, I will give a rundown of a few other choices I had in mind, just out of the sake of curiosity, and explain why they don't add up so much.

Of all the Rookies of the Worst Generation (besides Law), I felt that Jewelry Bonney was the most likely to gain the title of Warlord.

We know there is some connection between her and the current Fleet Admiral, Sakazuki. As we saw before the Time Skip, he was the one that rescued her from Blackbeard (quite out of character for him, given his very aggressive take on justice). We also remember even earlier than that, during the War when all the Rookies were watching back at Sabaody, and Bonney was on the verge of tears from what was happening at Marineford. I'm starting to believe her strong emotions may have came less out of fear for any of the pirates in danger, but more in sadness of what Sakazuki was doing.

Bonney could be his daughter, niece, cousin, sister, mother, grandmother (remember, Bonney can alter her age, which means she could be a lot older than her looks imply) or maybe old friend/lover for all we know, but there is something between them. If Sakazuki was looking to protect her from prosecution, giving her the title of Warlord would seem like the easiest means. (Also there is this other idea that the reason Akainu was tracking her down specifically was because the Marines wanted to use her powers to make the Five Elders young again, but that's a theory for another day.)

The reason this doesn't appear all that plausible however is, as you can see from the photo above, Bonney was one of the people they showed looking at the news about Doflamingo's [fake] resignation, and from the looks of it, she seems to be keeping a pretty low profile, which she wouldn't necessarily have to do if she was a Warlord now. Also, given the way the scene reveling all the Seven Warlords as seen in the picture at the top, they said, "and the man I explained about earlier," which may just be incorrect translation, but if it is true, would rule out the possibility of a new female candidate.

We all know Crocodile is planning something in the New World now that he and his first mate Daz Bones have escaped Impel Down. Wouldn't it be the craziest twist if the Seventh Warlord turned out to be someone who was already a Warlord at a previous point, making a shocking return to power? Crocodile could have done anything to regain the approval of the World Government. And wouldn't it be the most frightening circumstance for the Straw Hats. Like mobsters you think you put down for good just keep breaking out and gaining power all over again?

If this actually did happen though, I could see a ton of fans getting real frustrated by it. For one, it would undermine everything the Straw Hats accomplished in Alabasta (not really, but I guarantee millions of fans would think that), and it would be kind of a drag if there was a whole arc in the future revolved around fighting Crocodile again. So yeah, Croc will probably show up to some capacity and do something in the New World, but I doubt he's a Warlord again.

Okay, maybe there is not as much evidence for this one, I just think it would be really cool. Hailing way back to the Syrup Village Arc in season one, Captain Kuro was One Piece's very first legitimate antagonist (Buggy would like to think he is, but no one takes him seriously).

Kuro was cunning, intimidating, and very intellectual. He had an interesting fighting style that, given enough training over the time skip and perhaps add a Zoan type Devil Fruit to his arsenal (The Cat Cat fruit, Black Panther Model naturally), he could still pose a lethal threat. Also, his motive and history go very hand in hand with achieving the title of Warlord. Kuro is a veteran pirate captain who has grown tired of constantly being hounded by the Marines. Originally, he faked his death and washed ashore Syrup Village and posed as Kaya's butler for three years, before he was caught by the Straw Hats and his scheme was cut down. He's back on the run now, especially because his former first mate, Jango, is now a member of the Marines and has more than likely sold him out that he faked his death at this point. It would appear the only way for him now to accomplish his goal of a life of peace and prosperity would be to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and he's just the kind of guy to put the time, effort, and brain power into accomplishing said goal.

While it calls to question why Oda would set up these characters so early in the series and imply they are still out there, and than never come back to any of them, it's a bit of a stretch to believe guys like Kuro, Morgan, or Don Kreig would ever be powerful enough to compete with the rest of the big fish in the New World. Than again, nothings impossible. Just look at where Buggy is?

Alright, enough speculation of people who probably aren't the Seventh Warlord. But who is you may ask? Well, it could be someone we don't know yet, but where's the fun in that? No, I'm pretty sure we've met this person. Long ago in a back story far far away. Any idea yet?

The Revelation. It is here!

There are a lot of signs that point to this newcomer from the current Dressrosa arc (gee, I wonder who it could be) as being the seventh and final Warlord of the Sea. First of all, the current manga chapters have been blatantly obvious on implying who this guy is, but they still yet to have revealed his face. Why is that? Well, if he truly is a Warlord as myself and others suspect he is, then the entire general public knows who he is and what he looks like. Right now, he is performing a covert mission where he's posing as Lucy to throw off Doflamingo and trick him into believing Luffy is still in the tournament. If and when he reveals himself, his tournament competitors, Doflamingo, and everyone in the crowd will all recognize right away that Lucy was secretly [insert name here], one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea the whole time. Does that not sound like the kind of big grand reveal that Oda would go for?

Second of all, it's pretty clear this guy is working for the Revolutionary Army. He first appeared in the same chapter that Koala was introduced (who knew Robin when she was with the Revolutionaries during the time skip) so that can't be a coincidence. In the past, the Revolutionary Army inserted one of their own in a Seven Warlords of the Sea position as their inside man. This was Bartholomew Kuma. Unfortunately, Kuma has since been reprogrammed to serve the Marines exclusively, therefore he is no longer with them. It makes perfect sense for this new guy to be their new inside man.

Now the reason I haven't mentioned his name is because at this point in the series, he may no longer be known by the name that we know him. It is very likely he has a whole new name and alias. I also would not be surprised if he looks different than we remember, and not just because it's been 12 years since we last saw him. He probably suffered severe scaring permanent damage to his face from the explosion that was suppose to kill him back then. He might have gotten a new face entirely for all we know.

Yeah, I really don't see who else it could be.

So there you have it. Now it's only a matter of time before Oda confirms it himself and shows everyone how right I am...or wrong. I mean, it's a possibility that he has something more interesting in mind. And I suppose with Law losing his Warlord status and, if things go according to plan, Doflamingo will also fall by the end of this arc, meaning there will be two more open Warlord positions by the end of this arc, meaning there may be a chance for Bonney and Kuro to also gain the status.

Unless of course this happens:

Now wouldn't that be something.

As always, if anyone has their own exciting theories on who the Seventh Warlord may be, feel free to comment below. Or if you find any flaws with my own theories, I'm open to any and all feedback.

Class dismissed.
