Anime: Marineford Arc- Episode 487

We all watch One Piece at OnePieceOfficial.com~! One Piece Official dot com~!

First Thoughts
In the town where I was born~,
Lived a man, who sailed the seas,
And he told~ us of his life,
In the land of submarine~,

Enough of that. I am sure that many of you know why I am singing that song but incase you don't know the song then take a listen to Yellow Submarine by The Beatles.

This episode did have it low moments but when the show was on a high moment it really was really high! So many great things happen that would make any One Piece fan squeal in excitement. We had Crocodile being awesome and such an great ending to the episode. What more can we ask for? Well beside pacing things that something fans asks for a long time. Still a fun episode.

Summary
Sengoku defends against the Blackbeard Pirates

Akainu continues his pursuit of Luffy. The Whitebeard Pirates intercepts him.

Law appears requesting to assist Luffy.

Thoughts
The Marines surely look downhearted now that Blackbeard is running around with two Devil Fruit Powers. Their tall and mighty HQ building is falling apart before their very eyes and there is nothing they can do. Strange that none of them don't want to take on Blackbeard since they were so eager to fight against Whitebeard who was much more powerful.

The people at Sabaody though seem very scare. They been watching the things happening at Marineford with their very own eyes and none of them seem excited or happy at all. They have been shocked by every thing that appears on the screen. From the deaths of Ace and Whitebeard, to the sudden power that Blackbeard has gotten and possibly the cruelty of the Marines. They have a very good reason too since this isn't something that people see everyday. They may be some of the few people who have witness these events and maybe the only ones who will know the truths of what happen at Marineford depending if the Marines are going to release accurate information.

This is only a face that a mother would love. Well...maybe....

Have I ever mention that Blackbeard is a good looking man? Never? Good because if I ever did then I was lying. haha

Looks like after a long wait, Sengoku finally goes in to get his hands dirty. He has done a little bit of fighting but now he has to go against Blackbeard. Surely Sengoku is a powerful figure if people seem to have confidence in his words. Also if he was an admiral which means he has some fighting power within him. If Akainu, Aokiji and Kizaru are powerful then how much more powerful is Sengoku?

It makes me wonder though how much of an affect would Blackbeard's Darkness Darkness and Tremor Tremor powers against Sengoku's Buddha powers.

Also Sengoku has a shiny fro. You know a person is powerful if they have a fro and it shines. haha

Also was it me or was the camera in this episode was doing a lot of right to left (and vice versa) moving shots? You would just see Sengoku standing there making his inspirational speech and the camera would just be moving to the right. It happen a lot in this episode and I started to notice it right here.

The respect that I have for the Marines is....not low but not very high.....So when I saw that they were all eager to attack tired out Whitebeard Pirates that were trying to run away. Let just say that my respect for the Marines has lower.

Here we are with Blackbeard as a major threat. Blackbeard himself has said that he is willing to sink Marineford and all that it represents but they are going to go after the easy kill that are trying to run away and already defeated mentally and physically. Just a few minutes ago the Marines were all down and depressed about facing another user of the Tremor Tremor Fruit and now they are all excited to attack some weakened pirates.

Wouldn't it be better to attack the pirates who are a bigger threat right now? Maybe I don't know, the Blackbeard Pirates who are able and willing to attack Marineford then pirates who are trying to runaway? Really smooth there Marines. What are you going to do next? Attack an island filled with helpless historians? Oh wait....

I don't care if the move that Ivankov is filler and made up by the anime. It was such a cool and awesome looking move. haha The fight between Akainu and Ivankov in the manga so needed to be expanded on. It was clear that Ivankov was going to lose but really nice to see how the fight between these two people went down.

Laser Surgery Fist looked very cool and it makes me wish that they would make up more anime only attacks or Oda would have spent more time on fights during the Marineford Arc in the manga. I remember while reading the manga that around this part was when I felt that Marineford was dragging it's feet and really wished for it to end. If we had a little bit more fights like this then maybe the ride would have been a bit more enjoyable. I guess we see if I will be singing the same tune in a few weeks.

Wow....This image came really close to becoming the opening image of this post. Very close but as you can see The Beatles reference was able to beat it out. This was kind of funny in a morbid way. Ivankov standing in a sea of flames realizing that he was in trouble. It is funny because he tried to make a comedic moment out of his pain but then those flames began to spread and things got grim. Nice to know how the fight went against Akainu but hate how it ended up for Ivankov.

Also is there a song with the lyrics "Sea of Flames" or "Field of Flames" or something with flames? I feel that there is but I couldn't figure out the song. If you know then leave a comment.

Seems like something is going on with Coby. He is hearing voices from all over the place and they don't seem happy. He is hearing the voices of people falling and yells. Sounds familiar to something else that has happen in One Piece. Very interesting development in Coby.

Still sucks that he is hearing these voices though since I wouldn't want to.

If I can make it to the sea then I can...Oh drats....

This part was one of my favorites scenes from the manga. Just watching Jimbei running trying to escape to the sea. Jimbei sounded so confident that all will be fine. Then you see him jump and below him is a field of ice. You can literally hear the sense of dread on Jimbei's face as you know he is screwed and going to get hurt badly. Then you pan out to see Aokiji just waving at Jimbei. Poor Jimbei, you can never win can you? haha

MAGMA FIST TO THE CHEST!

Akainu sure loves his Magma Fists to the chest doesn't he? This here makes it three people that Akianu has punched in the chest and that considering that Akainu punched one of those people twice. haha

Also where is Luffy's hat? Not sure where Luffy's hat is then keep on eye out for it since something is going to happen.

Things don't look good since I didn't realized that Jimbei got punched though the chest. I thought it was at the side when reading this in the manga but clearly it was though the chest and somehow it had hit Luffy. That doesn't look too good.

To people who read the manga as it comes out in Japan, this helps explains something interesting. Love how the anime brings out fine details that are missed in the manga. Color and bigger image surely does help a lot. haha

Do you know what I hate about the anime? It isn't the pacing or animation. Those things I don't seem to mind since I rarely can tell but there is one thing that does get me upset. Flashbacks to this that happen two episodes ago. They are only showing a flashback to buy up time because only people with a memory of a goldfish would forget small things that happen about three episodes ago. If you want to give a flashback then make it something from last arc. Anything but this.

Damn Awesome

Another high point for me. Anything with Crocodile is awesome in my book and really...how can you not agree that Crocodile is awesome here? He just sliced Akainu with a sand blade and then blew away Jimbei and Luffy. Mr. Magma didn't see it coming as Crocodile broke though the ice and attacked him from below. Crocodile did the same thing that Akainu did but with style and class. Way to go Crocodile.

This was when the episode started to kick things up a notch and become very awesome.

It is funny to see these guys still having faith in Buggy. Even though the clown has given up, these guys haven't. The best part of this whole scene was the fact that this guy who never gave up hope had this face. Ugly as heck but funny at the same time. It was funny to see that even Buggy is getting tired of these guys since we later see him ignoring them and thinking they were crazy asking for his help via SOS. Season prisoners. Sucks that we didn't see you guys in action after being told that you guys were powerful and a force to be feared.

Image of the week right here.

Buggy's face was priceless here. I wish we could get a full face shot but this is good enough. Any sane person would be doing the same thing too if they saw a giant fist of magma chasing them though the sky.

This was nicely done. You see each Whitebeard Commanders slowly appearing out of the smoke to defend Luffy and helping him escape. They feel that they need to help Luffy and make sure that he makes it into the New World. Looks like we are going to have a full blown battle here against Akainu and we going to see who will come out on top.

You know things were going to get good when you saw Vista slash Akainu to stop him. Then that flame that Marco was making looked nicely animated.
"Whatever he lives or dies, it's as if he's in hell. Then we can make him suffer as we please while he lives."
-Crocodile
Not sure if all of Whitebeard's crew would agree to this but it would explain why Crocodile is willing to help out Luffy. I guess Croc wants to make Luffy suffer in his own special way once Luffy makes it into the New World. If anything this may means we will see Whitebeard's crew and Crocodile in the future once we make it into the New World.

We all live in a Yellow Submarine~! A Yellow Submarine~

This part MADE the episode for me! I was wondering what color Law's ship/sub was going to be since it appeared in the manga. If this sub wasn't yellow then it better be orange to match the jumpsuits that Law's crew wears. Yellow was the color that I wanted though and I am glad that they made this yellow. Feels like Oda is making a nod to The Beatles or something and that is very cool.

Looks like Law is going to be brought down to help. Not sure on his reasons but he wants to help Luffy and that is good since the kid surely needs it. Looks like we are in for a good time since we have a yellow submarine and a cool polar bear in an orange jumpsuit. Also remember that Law is a....

"I'm a doctor!"
-Law

Those Marines are just going to continue their attack and it doesn't look like they are going to stop anytime soon. More Marines are popping out of nowhere and it seems like the Pacifistas are organizing themselves. We haven't seen the Pacifistas in a while too so things don't look too good for the Whitebeard Pirates. We are also seeing that Marco and Akainu are battling it out so at least we get to see more of that fight.

Things don't look good for our favorite bunch of pirates as well seeing that Kizaru is doing what he does best which is attacking people who can't fight back. Law and his crew doesn't seem to be in a good position to defend seeing that they are in a yellow submarine floating in the bay.

Then the last thing we see is Coby standing before Akainu. This doesn't look good but things are getting exciting.

Next Episode: A Desperate Cry- Seconds of Valor that Changes Destiny

Stay tune guys because things are going to get rough on these seas.
