Manga: Chapter 607 (SPOILERS)

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Don't panic! There is a lot of One Piece manga from Viz to get for Christmas!

This week's chapter was AWESOME! Oh my gosh so much awesome happen in this chapter and everything came out looking beautiful! It is rare that I just look at a chapter and think to myself how great everything was nicely drawn. Some of the people in this chapter look really nice and helped paint the situations. Then add the extra layer of some of the things we got we have just one awesome cake. haha

Surume is growing on me. I was kind of indifferent about him but the more I saw of him the more that I am ended up liking him. When he appeared in last week's chapter I found him a bit funny since he has that funny looking smile but in this chapter I found him a bit cute with how he was carrying the StrawHats above his head with his tentacles.

Then we got some playful banter via Robin and Nami when Surume was running away from the eruption.
"What a horrible way of running."
-Robin
That is a horrible thing to say Robin. haha How do you expect an octopus-like creature to run? They usually swim-float or something. I don't know but really I think Surume did a good job in running and it seems like Nami is liking him as well. Makes me wonder if Oda or somebody did some research on how octopi move in the water to help draw out Surume's movements.

I "Aww"-ed out loud when I saw this happen.

Surume is a really cool character and boy am I glad that Luffy got a kraken on the crew. It just sucks that he ran away or is hiding in the background because those fishman pirates scolded him for helping the StrawHats. That made me a little sad. Surume really seems like he was enjoying himself with them.

Also I wanted to see more punches from an octopus. haha

While I have the image above, it seems like the Umibouzu that is part of Decken's crew looks similar to SanJuan from Blackbeard's crew. Could SanJuan be an umibouzu? Hopefully since that would explain why he is so big.

Usopp took the 'Awesome Award for this week's chapter. He not only saved the crew from a rocky death but showed off his new weapon. It took me a while to determine if this was the same old Kabuto or a differnt one but the thing on the 'horn' curves so that makes me think that this is a new weapon. I am betting that the name of this weapon is going to be called 'Hercules' since the 'horn' looks like one that you will see on a Hercules beetles and the coloring of it looks the same to those that attacked Sabaody during the StrawHats' escape. Though the coloring is different compare to slingshots in that past that Usopp has had.

Also thinking that there is more to this weapon concerning the grip and handle of it since they are hidden. Maybe it is a bit curved since Usopp is now utilizing the Pop Greens in his attacks thus giving it a plant-like look. Be interesting when this new weapon is fully revealed. Another thing to notice is that Usopp brought down his new goggles to attack instead of his old scope goggles. Makes me wonder what happen to them or did he rework them.

This is a fine example of how great the art in this chapter was! Sanji looks beautifully drawn. His face is nicely shaded and fine detail to his face. It fits in perfectly with the tone of the moment but what Sanji says goes completely against the tone. haha Still it works nicely.

Other fine moments of art in this chapter was when Nami was pressing up against the bubble to watch the eruption, Nami looking at the Log Pose (that was on that same page), the reveal of Fishman Island, and looking at all the seakings. Every one of these moments looked really nice. Props to Oda and his team for being so fine tuned to details.

Thus this chapter ends with maybe the best way ever with something that EVERYBODY been wanting! A reference/tie-in to the Arlong Arc. Oh wow! So many things to say about this part of the chapter. I really don't know where to start.

First off, Hammond seems like a mess up person and very villainous. Some of his expressions really do look similar to Arlong's which gives me a bit of chills. Surely he will cause some trouble for our StrawHat pirates. Seems like this guy is take out any humans that want to enter Fishman Island while giving pirates the choice to either join him or death. I am betting that he was the one that put Surume at the base of the Downward Plume Stream seeing that Hammond knows him. Hammond must be a powerful person if he can make a kraken scare of him. The tattoos on Hammond's body is another great way to take a look into his persona seeing that he bares Arlong's mark along with an altered Fisher's mark. Hammond clearly supports Arlong and surely must think that humans are under fishmen and clearly doesn't like them.

Speaking about Arlong's mark, seems like it brings a little bit of fear into Nami because her expression doesn't look too nice upon setting her eyes on it. I wonder if Luffy had notice it as well which would explain why he said no (and the obvious reason why he would say no). It just that Nami really wanted to get out of there fast and that mark could be one of the main reasons why she wanted to use the rest of their air to do a Coup de Burst. I really feel bad for Nami since this could bring up some bad memories for her since her history with the Arlong Pirates was never rosy. This should bring in some interesting moments later.

So now we are off with a plan to ditch Hammond using Coup de Burst as Luffy screams out his refusal to Hammond's offer. Who knows how this will turn out but a small part of me is thinking this may not work but then again Coup de Burst has had a good track record. Will it work? Maybe. Maybe not.

So stay tune true believers! Next week's is going to be an interesting chapter!
